Sure, I would like a Crosby or Spezza or Kopitar in front of Koivu on the center depth chart. But ain't gonna happen. NHL teams aren't built like NHL 13 teams. Koivu is a top-30 center, so he's going to be our #1 until one of our prospects passes him.
I think our main problem is a lack of high-end wingers. Centers will be fine if Granlund keeps improving. The blueline is also fine as Brodin, Falk, and Scandella improve and step into bigger rolls. Our issue is that we don't have blazers to push back the defense or snipers to put the puck in the back of the net from all points in the offensive zone.
Parise is elite, but he's more of a short-range scorer.
Heatley has completely fallen off.
Setoguchi is never going to be that kind of player so get over it.
Bouchard is done. Cullen is a top-9 player on bad team.
Clutterbuck has already peaked.
Coyle not suited for that role.
So, yeah. It's kind of looking like Zucker is our only hope.
Sorry but that's just wrong unless of course the Hurricanes were bad when they won the cup. He's not a top 6 but he's still a good 3rd line player.
So after we lose on Sunday (which, come on, it's Detroit, so that's just a given), they've got what I think might be their longest break of the season: no games Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. Yeo gets his time with the team to do whatever (coughbagskatecough) he wants. If he can't turn them around on the road trip that follows that break, I think there's a chance he's canned.
Everyone said it was the injuries and lack of talent last year. Well we fixed those and we're still a basement dweller. No offense, embarrassing defensive lapses, frustrated players, and pissed fans.
If I'm Fletcher, I'm seriously weighing that option. There're no more personnel moves he can make to make the team better, and frankly, Fletch is almost certainly canned at the end of this year if they miss the playoffs again. Remember that his decision to keep or can Yeo reflects on him just as much as player decisions do, and he's gotta take some action quick to turn this sinking ship around.
