So..... how about those 2006 Olympics.......

Seriously though, no best of 7 series, just round robin then 1 game knockout, a lot of things can happen.

Chance at what? The OP doesn't even specify what this is even regarding but I am going to take a huge risk, go out on a limb, and assume he/she means the Olympics.

If my daring assumption is correct than I gotta agree... That roster looks at the very least as unstopple as the '98 or '06 teams Canada sent.

BTW this thread is probably in the wrong sub-forum.

True all it takes is one goalie ******** the bed or another going full on beast like Hasek did. I anything can happen in single elimination.

I guess when it comes down to Olympic's tournaments the outcome is more reliant on teammates finding chemistry, hot goalie and tactics.

Canada has iced some seriously great teams and has got beaten by a lot lesser groups.

As a Finn, i have gotten used to being the underdog but i feel like we have proven that team on paper =/= team on ice.

Of course every winning team needs solid players but filling a team with all-stars guarantees nothing.

Hahah you think that's what the lineup is gonna look like? They'll screw it up by including some random like Clutterbuck or some one-dimensional dman for "shot-blocking."

Also, there are far better forwards than Mike Richards lately. I'll start with one guy on my team so far...Matt Duchene who's been lights out this season and his speed would be pretty smooth on big-ice.

Jeff Skinner as well, Skinner/Tavares/Eberle looked amazing together at the WHC this past season.

big rinks tends to vanish the importance of physicality meaning that guys like Seabrook, Weber, Staal may not look all-star. And personally, I would take Swedish D over Canadian one.

Based on how unbearable this place will be a year from now (assuming Olympic participation gets sorted out) it is safe to say it means a lot.

Sweden. Put Zetterberg up against Crosby. Sid won't like that very much.

No, OP. No other team is even worthy to be on the same ice as the Canadian team. They are going to announce the automatic awarding of the Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals to the Canadians for how dominant they are/would be. This will give the NHL a chance to host another amazing All Star game, because that's what the fans secretly desire more than anything.

Canada probably won't dominate as much as people think.

The Olympics is a whole new ball game compared to the WJC's. Can't imagine a lot of teams repeat gold medals. Even Canada went I think 40+ years between gold medals before we won in '02?

Russia will have some serious motivation, Swedes are always a threat. Even teams like Finland and Slovakia could surprise.

Canada's team could very well be a case of "too many chiefs and not enough indians". I feel like the last group we had will be one of the best we're going to have for a while.

Hopefully not....

No they dont, so Canada need to let Stamkos play for Sweden. For the good of the sport of course.

Hmmm, why is this thread in the NHL subforum?

But the answer to the question is quite simple. Both Canada and the USA failed on large ice in Turin 2006 so I wouldn't be surprised if at least one of them fails to make it to the final in Sochi, and that could even be Canada especially if it faces one of its black beasts such as Switzerland or Finland.

Btw most of these players probably wouldn't be allowed to play because the NHL is going to disallow it.
Russia will dominate.

No way!

That is 8 all-stars.

And probably 5-6 of the top 10 defensemen in the NHL...Weber, Doughty, Letang, Pietrangelo, and Keith fall in this top-10 category. Make up your own personal mind about the rest.

Sweden's defense doesn't compare to Canada's.
It's not as good but it compares. Edge to our skating ability however.
Karlsson-OEL
Edler-Enstrom
Kronwall-Hedman

That's six #1 D's on respective NHL club.

50, but only 4 years with NHL participation. Canada had won numerous best on best tourneys in between.

You're right we have, sorry my mind isn't too sharp at 2:45am . Canada Cup, World Cup and World Championships.

Regardless, with the amount of talent in the NHL from all over the world, it's stupid to assume any country is a "lock" for something like an Olympic Gold Medal.

Normally no one stands a chance but Canada isn't good on big ice, but they're still the overall favorites imo
