No team can stop them. Not even Seal Team 6 equipped with bazookas. Not even Team America. Not even Jesus and his disciples. No. This team is simply unstoppable. Not one stands a ghost of a chance.

They are absolutely sick.
Karlsson is about as good as Weber. There are no other swedish d-men as good as any of the top 6 Canadian defenders.

The United States of America, Russia, Sweden, Finland, The Czech Republic, Slovakia.

They are called "The Big 7" for a reason...

Canada Hockey is not USA Basketball.

so you're basically saying, for example, that Pietrangelo is way better than Kronwall while OEL is way worse than Keith?

That's six #1 D's on respective NHL club.
Kronwall, Edler, and Hedman aren't really #1 D.
Hedman this season yes, and if his offense continues to develope possibly top 5 defenseman. OEL is kind of iffy, not quite a #1 D yet, should be before Sochi. Edler is a 2/3 at best, Kronwall is about the same, Enstrom is a #1/great #2. EK is the best on the planet if he recovers, which we don't know if he will.

I'd say Karlsson and potentially Hedman could be better than anyone Canada has, but Weber and Doughty barring injuries would be safer, OEL, and Enstrom are about on par with Letang, Keith, and Petro at this point, and I'd take any combination of the bottom 4 defensemen for Canada over Edler and Kronwall.

If Quick plays like he did in June. The US have a good shot to get a medal.

Really? You needed to make this thread. Us Canadian fans get a bad name around here for being cocky.

Stop being so arrogant.

We almost lost in 2010. Its not always about the skill and many other teams are looking like they are going to be really strong as well.

Its being played on international size ice where Canada didnt even medal in 1998 or 2006.

Canada will always be the favourite but of course other nations have a chance.

Does any other nation even have a chance?

I heard Canada is automatic gold for 2014 already. They are too awesome, best team in the history of the Universe <3

Other teams will only compete for Silver and Bronze medals.

There's a half dozen nations that have a solid chance at winning gold. I hate single game elimination. Though on the other hand, I never feel too bad when Canada loses because I don't put much stock in this kind of tournament.

We had this defensive corps thread a while ago and no one objected that it really was between Sweden's and Canada's D. The poll went Canada's way (even if I voted Sweden as the question was about 2014 and I expect some big strides. But as someone wrote: 2018 might be the year for that Swedish D-corps):

Best defensive corps. for Sochi 2014, Sweden or Canada?

Taken the production last season on the projected D corps there isn't much difference really.

Canada can field an insanely talented team. But seen in relative terms - as it is a duel situation - I would say that Canada have had even stronger teams relative the opposition (not relative other iterations of Canadian teams) and that has not always been with a gold medal as the outcome.

And Russia on home ice will not give way all to easily. Be sure that many aspects of Russian hockey already have geared up towards the Olympics in a more dedicated way than other nations.

Well, i kind of like that it is 1 game elimination. Gives more chance to other teams to win it.

How come you don't care about the Olympics? The ultimate games for NT. Best and most passionate hockey for me.

(Excluding the SCF's but my team rarely gets there.)

Sweden and USA have solid rosters. Russia and Finland are paper thin on their back ends. No one else really has a chance.

Sweden's defense corp is much more mobile than Canada's. It's played on the big ice I would take Sweden's defense over canada's especially if Karlsson is healthy, they guy is head and shoulders above others at the moment.

Hamhuis should be on the team paired with Weber.

Maybe you should look at that roster then give your head a shake. Canada did not know how to pick teams back then -
*Rob Blake (Simcoe, ON/Colorado Avalanche)
*#Scott Niedermayer (Cranbrook, BC/Anaheim Mighty Ducks) - withdrawn due to injury
*#Adam Foote (Whitby, ON/Columbus Blue Jackets)
*#Ed Jovanovski (Windsor, ON/Vancouver Canucks) - withdrawn due to injury
*Chris Pronger (Dryden, ON/Edmonton Oilers)
#Wade Redden (Lloydminster, SK/Ottawa Senators)
#Robyn Regehr (Rosthern, SK/Calgary Flames)
Bryan McCabe (Calgary, AB/Toronto Maple Leafs)
#Jay Bouwmeester (Edmonton, AB/Florida Panthers)
Forwards -

Todd Bertuzzi (Sudbury, ON/Vancouver Canucks)
#Shane Doan (Halkirk, AB/Phoenix Coyotes)
*#Simon Gagne (Ste-Foy, QC/Philadelphia Flyers)
#Kris Draper (Toronto, ON/Detroit Red Wings)
#Dany Heatley (Calgary, AB/Ottawa Senators)
*#Jarome Iginla (St. Albert, AB/Calgary Flames)
#Vincent Lecavalier (e Bizard, QC/Tampa Bay Lightning)
Rick Nash (Brampton, ON/Columbus Blue Jackets)
#Brad Richards (Murray Harbour, PEI/Tampa Bay Lightning)
*#Joe Sakic (Burnaby, BC/Colorado Avalanche) (team captain)
*#Ryan Smyth (Banff, AB/Edmonton Oilers)
#Martin St. Louis (Laval, QC/Tampa Bay Lightning)
#Joe Thornton (St. Thomas, ON/San Jose Sharks)

Such little speed.

Tyutin-(random KHLer better than 85% of NHL Dmen)

I think they could compete, especially if they have anyone but Nabokov between the pipes.
