We'll beat Ottawa at home. Book it.

I almost think it's too late for a tank. Just push for the playoffs now. screw it.

Let the Islanders and Oilers draft another superstar..

Let's keep all this 'tanking' gibberish in one thread, thanks.

Sooner or later they are going to have to start letting them go.

While I would not be sad if we got a very good pick through a poor finish. I am enjoying the winning. But I am not sold on this team making the playoffs.
However I think the Hockey gods owe us.

If we finish 9th in the East we Win the lottery and Draft #1 overall.

Or if the gods still hate us We finish 8th and face Boston 1st Round.

All of this is accurate - Boston would be a good team to face in the first round though - they'd underestimate us - we'd have a real reason to get pumped up to play them. I'd be more worried about facing someone like NJ or CAR

I think if we were to face Boston-NYR-(hee I was about to type Washington heee), or NJ/Pits, I think it wouldn't be so much of a sweep/five gamer - I could see it eeking out to six games even a game seven, because I do think that they'd go in under-estimating us. We generally play very well against NYR/NJ/Pits, so I don't see why it would be different in a playoff situation. Boston - until last year, we've played WELL, not an overall shellacking.

I won't lie, I have no idea whose hot/not in the draft, I just leave it up to you guys slash TSN lol to tell me who the Leafs should get, but I don't want us to tank. I want to be productive, and progressive and get that playoff experience, and move on towards becoming a dominate force in the League again and push for that cup.

Its kind of funny how this thread always seems to pop to the top of the board after a loss.

Not that I don't feel the pain.

Seriously though I don't think the Leafs are bad enough to finish bottom 5 but then again I didn't think that last year either and...well, we all know how that went.

It's hard to judge a team with a fairly new coach, a new GM and a shortened season. It could go either way.

Bright side is there should be some really good talent throughout the 1st round so as long as Nonis doesn't move that 1st we should have a fairly exciting draft come summer.

Even later on in the current rankings I like guys like Curtis Lazar and Kerby Rychel.

I agree. There is too many teams below us for a full on tank. I initially wanted to tank for MacKinnon (Halifax bias) but now I want the playoffs! I believe our scouts will find and develop a good player regardless of where we draft.

Yeah well we're notoriously bi-polar I guess. 4 game winning streaks build optimism but a single loss can crush it pretty fast let me tell ya. Especially when they look horrible.

I wouldn't worry too much man. Its a topic of widely varying opinion and everyone's allowed to have their own. Even mods.

Anydangway, its just one of those weird seasons with new management and a short schedule...really we just have to take this one as it comes I think. We know the Leafs like to build us up and then crush all hope...its like a signature move.

Too late?

Heh, like always early in the season we are always near the top in games played.

Lets see how things look after some of those games are made up.

We are actually closer to the bottom 5 then one would gather at a quick glance.

Lets see how we survive this rash of injuries. Frankly, my optimism is gone till they return.

No doubt.

I'm not immune to the swaying. Wins have me focus on team success this year, losses on the draft. Its a way to keep sane (or something close to it anyway).

Props to those who stick with their viewpoints though. Personally I don't care HOW the team gets better, just so long as they get better. The Leafs have been bad for FAR too long.

It's going to be impossible to truly judge this team from this years performance, to many key injury's, compounding the aggregate loss in a shortened season.

One could calculate that every injury equals a doubling negative effect, seeing it's a half season.

All that i really ask of this organization this season is for management to make the right moves come trade deadline.

Well when it comes to wins, what i really focus on is, how did they young players do.

Also, i look at who we beat and how, to better gauge the wins truer value, when assessing our team.

Just like not all 1rst round picks are = neither are all wins.

Definitely. Trade deadline is huge.

I hope that regardless of the standings Nonis isn't a serious buyer. We can't afford to give up picks/prospects for vets at this stage of the game even if we are in a playoff spot.

Actually, as a moderator, we are to stay neutral on neutral boards TOWARDS POSTERS. Why in the world would we not be allowed to have opinions on matters regarding the hockey team we support? That's just silly.

Well and i want him to be a seller at the TD.

I see no difference in send pics/prosp for vets for a po push and NOT sending out vets for pics/prosp to try for a po push.

You don't consider using the word "gibberish" as a slag toward all that hold value in the dreaded "tank"?

Maybe you should look up the meaning of that word.

Interesting.

I think tanking is gibberish, yes. Am I insulting anyone? No. Do I think it's a stupid concept? Yes.

I don't see Nonis being a seller if we are in a playoff spot. It wouldn't make any sense from a GM perspective.

Personally, I see a major difference. The first part involves giving up future assets for vets for a playoff push when the team mentality right now seems to be (in the legendary words of one Mess): "play the kids". The second part doesn't make sense to a GM as you would be weakening your team and especially your depth right before the playoffs begin.
