At this point, CHI's 1st is going to be late. CHI has a very deep prospect pool, with not many NHL spots to fill. It's completely interchangable IMO.
We obviously have completely different views on Olsen then. Thatīs fair.

This is beyond horrible. How did you figure the Avs would trade Stastny when there's a high chance they'll lose O'Reilly. Is the trade going to include a cloning machine so we can have Duchene play Centre on 3 lines at once?

At this point, Olsen still needs work. He hasn't gone to Rockford and played as well as Chicago had hoped. But he looked real solid in the NHL last year and qutie a bit of that time was spent playing 20 minutes a night alongside Duncan Keith. Yeah, he had his moments where he got beat wide and looked a bit overwhelmed, but overall he looked good for Chicago over a 28-game "cup of coffee".

Olsen could be a bottom-pairing NHL Dman on alot of NHL team's right now IMO and I still have faith that he can be a top-4 Dman in Chicago. At worst though, I think he can be a solid bottom-pairing, PK guy.

I'd consider the 1st + Pirri IF this was next year and we've sorted out the RoR debacle.

Ideal trade would be Stastny for another struggling player like Brassard, Phaneuf, etc.

that's awful for the Avs

Pirri or Olsen or Clendening + Stalberg for Stastny -20% Cap Hit

That's a bit better, still doubt Avs fans will like it

You're still not even in the ballpark.

Plus with the O'Reilly situation, they kind of need to keep him as a serviceable 2nd line center, especially with Mitchell out too.

The problem with Stastny's value is that it's very dependent on the team; to a team near the cap, it's virtually nothing since he'd be a cap hindrance. To the Avs, he's 2nd line center who's shown that he could be a 1st line center with the right wingers. If the Avs were fielding trade offers, they would (rightly, I think) expect that kind of value because they have no impetus to move him.

These two wildly different valuations are why Stastny threads are so... entertaining.
Very well put.

A bad contract means very little to a "salary floor" team. Colorado has the money to spend IF they were a contender, but right now no need since they are rebuilding. Stastny is still young and the upside is worth keeping him. (Its the same upside that makes whoever suggests trades try to "ROB" colorado to get this "overpaid" guy).

Basically he hasn't played well enough to garner the trade value required for Col to be happy, and for any team to pay for him. So he will never be traded.

For starters, Stastny likely will stay until the O'Reilly situation is worked out. My guess is that we won't see a solution to this until the summer.

With that said I like the quality prospects that the Blackhawks have and I think the teams would match up well as trade partners. I'd definitely revisit this once the FO figures out what to do with O'Reilly.

No from Chicago, Stastny has been a shell of his former self for 3 years running. I don't want that guy or his contract (even reduced) anywhere near this team. Just put Pirri in at 2C for us.

I love how people try and tell us getting rid of Stastny's cap hit is a reason to trade him. We have the fifth lowest cap in the league, if we're not using all that cap space now what good is getting more of it?

$6.6 million for a 50pt player?

Hell no. Keep him away from Chicago.

Not for Leddy, heck not for Clendenning. How about Shaw and Beach.

Not stirring the pot, but In Chicago with a good coach and good system, he'd be far more than a 50pt player. There will be better offers for him I think anyway.

Why can't the Avs just eat half his cap hit and actually get an awesome return.

The Avs are one of the cheapest teams in the league. I doubt they ever make a deal that retains salary.
