.... why the **** isn't this the biggest story of the year?!? A freaking meteorite impact just injured a hundred people. That's the first time in recorded history this has happened, for crying out loud.
While I'm not trying to take anything away from the injuries, the injuries are almost all minor and just from being cut when the shockwaves shattered the glass. I don't think I've seen any reports saying that anyone is in critical condition, or dead.

They are now saying over 1000 have been reported as injured, due to broken glass.

I want to see more pictures of where it actually hit...

In other worthless news, my tax return was also accepted last night. Getting a good chunk back, too, but using it for rent when we move to our new place. Can't ****ing wait to move...

What that a meteorite has impacted or that people have been injured?

True, but considering the previous worst injuries from meteorite impacts were from a lady with a bruised leg when a pebble went through her roof and smacked her ankle and noxious gases poisoning some folks in South America, I'd say that any injuries from an impact event is a big deal, even if from broken glass.

That people were injured. Impacts happen all the time, injuries however don't.

And, to bring in a hockey angle, apparently the arena for Traktor Celyabinsk, the KHL team in the city nearest to the impact, appears to have been damaged.

Quote:
"The emergency services have confirmed that the walls of the Arena Traktor were among those structures to suffer damage, and therefore large-scale events at the stadium have been postponed," the KHL said on its website. "The sporting facilities will undergo an inspection by experts to assess the readiness of the arena to return to full operational use.

One of my coworkers pointed out the irony of the Gagarin Cup potentially being damaged by a meteorite.

Nope. He was actually saying that it's very mild today. A couple weeks ago, the highs were in the 10s and for a few days it dipped into the 0s throughout the day.

That being said, I do hope it warms up BY SUNDAY, WHAT I SAID NOTHING TO THE CONTRARY, as I'll be at Soldier Field for two hockey games.

I got that. I was just emphasizing how I'm not prepared to withstand the cold

Going to relax and enjoy my three-day weekend, and being able to sleep in another half an hour Tuesday morning.

Best thing I have ever bought. First time I have ever had it too. Almost didn't get it too because the Hawks have like 15 games nationally televised, or something like that.... tested out the first game on a stream, and even NBC couldn't put up a decent stream for that game. Bought it after the first period. Love being able to keep the woman happy on a Friday or Saturday night by recording the game, and just not looking at the scores all night, and being able to fly through the commercial and intermissions later that night. It's actually getting to the point that I prefer waiting an hour or two before the game starts so I can skip through all that crap.

I've got Charter TV, and when they were doing the 1-2 day trial period of CenterIce at the beginning of the season, every game had low quality and wasn't worth it. I've found Gamecenter to be much better for me since I can stream it through a laptop onto the TV, or my Xbox. Gamecenter allows me to rewatch any game any time as well.

I'm completely hooked on Homeland right now. The wife has been working all day, so I've been watching Homeland almost all day. Episode 11 of the first season right now.

Went to a ECHL game tonight, and they painted the ice pink for boob cancer awareness... thought that was pretty cool.
