Meh. He's had chances, but has barely any offensive flair. He's checking from time to time. Not doing much, I thought he'd be more gritty (from what I'd watch). So far, he's crosschecking a lot for no reason. Got caught by the refs a for a few. He doesn't fight.

He isn't bad, but not living up to the gritty energetic player I expected. He doesn't seem to be a defensive liability at least.

A lot of it has to do from MT's experience with him in Pittsburgh. MT was able to get the most out of him at that time. It's clear he is not the same player he was, but MT still see's a hard working player even if the numbers aren't nearly the same. All coaches and GM's usually have their pet player. Burke had May, Keenan had Matteau, MT has Armstrong.

Thanks. I didn't follow either person close enough. It appears time has diminished his skills.

Not a bad 4th liner, but he's waaayy too passive on the pk for my liking.

Let say it this way: With Eller doing good on the 4th line recently, we are probably one player away from a very interesting 4th line and the obvious cut to makes it happen would be Armstrong imo.

Moen is also back to his "I've got a few more years on my contract" form but what can you do...

Well, he unofficially has 1 more goal than Pacioretty.

I still think it's his goal, look at 30 secs :

Comparing an apple to an apple, in an ideal situation you have neither.

If he's adding to team chemistry and providing a spark in the room or anything good like that in terms of intangibles, it probably cements him as a decent #12/13 forward. But that's it.
Is it just me or does it seem like Armstrong has lost a step? I dont remember him much from toronto or atlanta, but I seem to remember him as a better skater on pittsburgh.

He's meh. Not as intense I was hoping he would be, but frankly, I don't care. He's a fourth liner. He's good on the pk. He's not a liability on the ice. I'm not sure what everyone is expecting from a guy that is supposed to play less than 10 minutes a game. I've always been fascinated by this too, are we supposed to fill the fourth line with Datsyuks and Crosbys?

He's no liability but he isn't gritty nor overly physical.

In a word, he's useless.

I think he's been pretty good in his limited role actually. I did think you'd get a bit more offense from him, and more of those big hits he's known for, but he has been fairly physical and I can't really recall seeing too many mistakes. I think the fourth line has been really good this year. Huge improvement from last year. Most of the time they are thrown on they spend their shift in the offensive zone and they'll get you the odd goal here and there. I think they've been really good together.

+1

To me Armstrong and Moen have been playing on the same level. Colby was a 1st rounder guys, he has fair enough skills for a 4th liner. He moves the puck on the boards. He does his job. He even created 3-4 breakaways. He's been ok. Not terrific. But ok. Anyhow, I bet he's a good guy to have in the playoffs.

Darche was way more useful than Armstrong.

At least, he can kill penalties properly and chip in some goals and assists.

Armstrong has been way more consistent than Darche, 30 points a season on several occasions, and is 6 years younger. Armstrong's problem are injuries, not production. He's a better player than Darche. Moreover, Darche on the PK benefited from Gill.
