I'm quite curious about this. How do you know Kovy thought he was being rewarded?

Boyle showed more last night than Kreider had in most of the games he played this year.

This is all on Kreider. He's not playing the way he should be. He is not engaging and has been getting knocked off the puck far too easy for a guy that's 6'3 230 pounds. He needs to assert himself A LOT more.

Very disappointed in Kreider thus far. Probably shouldn't have expected him to come in and score consistent top-6 numbers, but after his playoff run, I thought he'd be a lot better than this. It's obvious he's still very raw and needs to polish his game. Hopefully he actually produces in the AHL during this stint.
I respect teh kid. Bone chips suck and its obvious he is still trying to get 100%. The kid will be a monster for us for years to come IMO. Let him kick ass in the AHL then hopefully he will be back for the stretch run and payoffs

Kreider's game has all the signs of a kid that has gotten by being bigger, stronger, and faster than everyone else during most of his hockey career. Relying on physical tools didnt really work in the AHL, and it sure as hell isnt going to work in the NHL.

He needs to get that tentative aspect out of his game. This season, the only time he has shown his speed and a willingness to engage is on the rush over the opposition's blue line. Thats nice and all, but its only a small part of an overall game.

As Torts has said, he needs to watch Hagelin. That little guy is fearless and uses his speed to get into every area of the ice - especially the dirty areas. Considering how much bigger and stronger Kreider is, it baffles me as to why hes so tentative out there.

It was in an interview.. It was awhile ago, can't remember where.

He thought he was being rewarded though. Seriously.

hes played 4 games while being healthy. you guys expect him to come out and be noticeable every shift. its been 4 games. could he be better? absolutely. but hes not going to be fearless after such a short time in the league. not surprising that john "impatience" tortorella sent him down though. changes the lineup and shuffles every single line after a 3 game win streak and we lose. great coaching right there.

Very Good Point. I mean against the devils and islanders he wasnt tentative as some have explained. This is one reason i like the devils coach much better than torts. i mean they lose parise but they let younger guys like henrique and even the kid Mattaeu have chances. I hate the devils but there is a reason they have had much mre succes than us the past 20 years

Kreider has been invisible and showed none of his trademark speed. Good move. Let him get his game together and come back with some attitude.

Sour grapes on your part much?

I know, I know. You put Chris Kreider in your avatar, and you expect smooth sailing. But big ol' mean John Tortorella threw a monkey wrench into those plans.

In all seriousness, as others have noted, this is on Chris Kreider - and, unlike last time, I hope he now uses his time in the AHL to work on his game and his battle level.

i feel like people expect everybody to play like ryan callahan and make their presence known every shift. kreider doesn't seem like that type of player. him and miller were a good option for the third line, better than whatever we have now. and yes im furious that i have to change my avatar now.

If Kreider doesn't get called up this year, doesn't that mean two years of his ELC are burned for a total of 26 or 27 games?

Different players have different types of games, but unless you can score at an exceedingly high rate without doing so (see: Marian Gaborik), theres no excuse to not bust your ass every single shift.

Can someone clear this up to me, because it's not making much sense to me.

Why are we burning a year off of JT's ELC to have him play wing? I think the only sensible thing to do is either send him back down or have him center our third/fourth line. People may have been too quick to be enamored with his goal scoring, but he really is a creator and playmaker, not a goal scorer.

I think so - but who cares? Not like hes going to get much of a raise anyway if he continues to not play that much.

Good, he showed nothing that made him a special player.

Yes, he didn't have proper linemates, but Kreider was bad on the Rangers this season. A tad stunned still to see such a fall from grace, he is a Ranger-prospect after all though.

I think thats crap Kreider is a good kid who loves hockey and plays hard. I never said he played amazing thsi year he hasnt but i have a feeling that when he comes back he is gonna be a big piece of the puzzle not just this year but in the next few years

That's a sunk cost. Shouldn't factor into the decision in any way.
