I am concerned about his size playing in the east.

He played in the East his entire career. As a center I would worry. On the wing he would be fine. Play him with Boyle who adds size and strength and Callahan who adds grit and speed and I think that line would do very well. Roy can control the puck and make plays.

I dont know if you guys are interested or if the ducks would be interested, but I would offer Richards+Thomas and a couple of this years third rounds picks for Getzlaf. We would dumb Richie and his contract to a team who needs a 1c under contract it also gives the Ducks more time to figure out what they were going to do with Perry. It also gives us a chance to get younger at center and possibly get him a 6 year contract.

Played in the north east, not the same division as the atlantic and got traded.
Anyway, that would be my only concern.

The Northeast is a pretty rough division with the Leafs, Sens and Bruins.

He got traded because the Sabres needed to add grit to their team. They had too many skill guys.

If the Rangers pick-up any rentals at the deadline (granted they're actually playoff-bound at that point), then I feel it would be somebody more like a Michael Ryder or Dustin Penner, not a Jarome Iginla or Derek Roy.

Maybe Leopold or Babchuk on defense?

This is who Sather should be looking at. A right handed sniper for the powerplay is just what the doctor ordered. Though, he'd probably forget how to take a one-timer as soon as he put on a ranger uniform.

Ryder doesn't need a Ranger Uniform, he forgets how to play plenty often all on his own.

There's this good Euro named Zuccarello-Aasen who would be perfect.

Am responding to this quote from Boom Boom G in prior thread (could not reply in time)....

Quote:
Yandle would make a fine second line center. Can't wait to see what the spine of the team looks like after we move Stepan for Yandle, buy out Richards, and move Boyle.

Bern if it was up to you we would be icing a new team every 6 weeks, because you're trade happy.

Why would Phx move Yandle for Stepan? Edit: Why would NYR move Stepan for Yandle? Because JT Miller has had a couple of nice games? Really?

You jump to conclusions so quickly, it's difficult to take anything you say seriously.

Kreider hasn't shown us much. And he's only a year younger than Stepan.

One player has posted 45 points, and 51 points in his career. A career that hasn't even come close to blossoming. The other is struggling adjusting to the NHL game.

Yet in the fairytale world you live in, you think Kreider's the more valuable player.

Keep dreaming buddy
Let's put that in digestible chunks...

Obviously there is a big in your tone which you chose not to icon.
Yandle will give us additional options. We'd move a D, probably Girardi + for a better C, or we go even stronger on D and look for other options at C.

What you are forgetting, or unwilling to say so I'll point it out for you, is that depending upon the +, if Stepan + is a talent upgrade, we should do it. I am not saying that Yandle is our best option in that regard, just that 'Yotes are strong on backline and would make him available and Stepan is acceptable as centerpiece for that kind of trade.

As for buy out Richards, that won't happen till end of next year.
we should move him before if circumstances allow, which is not likely, but possible.

Moving that contract would free up space for a replacement.
There may be thin situation at C this year, but that will pass.

Only as slow or as fast as it takes to make enough moves for this club to improve to where it needs to be, which is good enough not to merely challenge, but have enough reasonable chance to dominate.

As noted DS would be an acceptable piece.
Phx boards have let it be known for a year + they want to do a D for scoring help, probably Ws. Many threads/posts have specified Yandle.

Why do we do it? As I said, upgrade.
Because of Miller's few nice games? Really?

Well,

YES, Really

Oh yeah, despite that it would make more biz sense to not play him further this year, Miller's game is so good, is with such heart as to be another Cally lite, that they elected to keep him.

I would have kept Golden Boy too, but they're just keeping him busy while things get sorted on the big club. Kreider's eye opener vs. Brodeur has cinched that.

I don't say things JUST to be popular. I try to speak the truth and come up with creative suggestions to help us identify possible scenarios that improve the club. Sometimes my observations/judgment is in error, usually it is not.

The more we go forward, the more I trust this to be proven so.

Be honest, he really hasn't had THAT much of a chance to.

And that is relevant because.....

I will take kreider over Stepan any day, and if we post a poll, you will get the same conclusion from most at this board, and I dare say given an equal price the result would be the same at the big board.

If you;re SO sure I'm wrong, create a poll and give it ample time. I'm sure most would take Kreider.

Quote:
Yet in the fairytale world you live in, you think Kreider's the more valuable player.
Stepan, based on larger opportunity to date, not equal performance, has better stat's. But Kreider's upside is phenomenal. So yes, that's not even close, here on earth. ... maybe different on Bizzarro world, but not here.

how about Aaron Rome to NYR?? he would be a upgrade over Bickel and Gilroy... more of a physical dman. would add some size and grit to the defense.

Gotta say, I'm still waiting to see any evidence or proof of any judgment that wasn't completely erroneous. Your trade proposals are patently absurd, and this one is no different.

Stepan could only be traded in a deal that brings back a better, equally young center. That's it. That's the only possible logic towards trading Stepan. Suggesting otherwise has no basis in reality.

Stepan for Yandle is a complete fantasy.

I think we are looking at about 3 additions (more or less) to the team come playoff if all are healthy by the deadline
  • A 3rd line center - Weise/Ribeiro/Antropov/Roy
  • PP specialist -Zuccarello (as he is only costing $$ and no assets)
  • Crease clearing Defender that can play regular minutes - Murray/Erskine

If Kreider and Miller both do not look as though they get "Torts Trust" for consistent playoff duty, then maybe they will try to find a rental vet for that spot as well.Someone like Morrow/Penner maybe, but I doubt they make this move...

Hagelin - Stepan - Nash
Pyatt - Richards - Callahan
Boyle/or one of (Morrow/Penner) - Weise/Ribeiro/Antropov/Roy - Gaborik
Powe - Halpern/(Boyle) - Zuccarello/Asham

PP1
Zuccarello - Stepan - Callahan
Stralman - Nash

PP2
Pyatt/Pickup - Richards - Gaborik
MDZ - Girardi

PP2

Kreider, Miller as The Black Aces

McD - Girardi
Staal - Stralman
MDZ - One of Murray/Erskine

Gilroy, Bickel

Try to get a pick for Eminger or use him in a trade above

To get these assets we would be moving mostly if not only prospects and picks. We have the cap space. But some will feel pain and the outcry will be deafening when we give up quite the bounty I fear...

@bernmeister: The reason why Kreider would win the poll is because he' a prospect. And they are always potential +50 goal scorers, while "boring" Stepan is the old toy that is not (?) gonna be the new Brad Richards that everybody thought a couple of years ago. The difference between real life and NHL 13 us that player don't just get better because you play them hard, and there is a reason why Kreider is in the AHL, and it's not bcos Torts hare him, it's simply because he's not ready yet. Might be in a couple of weeks, nobody knows how he will adjust to the NHL-level.

And for Iginla discussion. I think he could be had cheap, lets say 2nd+3rd or something like that. That is if he specifically ask to be traded to a cup contender and then he can re-sign with Flames in the summer and retire there. It's not impossible that Flames wanna be nice and give him a chance to get the cup.

I sometimes humor the thought of you being the Rangers GM. Bernmeister, an actual NHL general manager. I imagine just 2 days in NYC is in total anarchy. Cars flipped over, stores looted, absolute chaos. Even Messier himself is seen trying to set MSG ablaze. You're previous trade "proposals" have included all 4 of the Rangers star D men, Richards, Gaborik, Stepan, Callahan, and mostly all of the prospects for over the hill, less skilled and over paid stars. I would not be surprised to see Lundqvist being included in there one day too. When will it end Bern, when will it end?
