That's the thing. The Sabres at their best can play with anyone...but they are so horrendously inconsistent, that they end up never playing at their best for more than a few minutes. The potential is there for this team to play well...which makes it so frustrating when they screw up as badly as they have. And at the end of the day, that's on Ruff.
So conversely does that mean the Bruins didn't feel like playing hard in the 3rd?
Bruins played like trash in the third. I've only had the displeasure of watching them three times, and if their play against the Sabres is indicative of the talent of that team, they're a bunch of frauds.
You are hung up on the literal definition of "they want to". I don't pretend to know NHL players' motivation levels - all I know is that I see random bursts of an actual NHL team in the Sabres. And they seem to always come against the Bruins.
That third was good hockey. They won their battles and kept it simple, for the most part.
The last 4 games Miller has been awesome. He's stopped 136 of 144 shots for a .944 sv %
He's been good all year, he's probably had one or two bad games (Florida comes to mind) but other than that he's been our 2nd best player. He's made huge saves every single game on grade A scoring opportunities time after time.
