The best course isn't to rebuild. You already have 2 good youngish centers in Pavelski and Couture.

Deal Marleau & Thorton in Mike Richards-type deals. Try to get 2 top prospects or young roster players out of each.

Try to get a 1st out of Clowe.

would a trade around Versteeg for Pavelski be reasonable? Versteeg and Petrovic?

No. We would want a good young player+. Someone offered Perron+D'agastini+ a pick. That is the type of deal we would want.

There's a huge difference in making changes to get quicker and saying everyone aside from 4 players is available!

No, fans of other teams were saying that, not us.

Douglas Murray for a 3rd rounder in 2013 (ours = NYR or Nashvilles - your choice) and the rights to Peter Čerešňák that is a big (6'3"/219) 20 year old defensive prospect playing for Peterborough Petes in the OHL.

Done?

Totally agree here. Take out Boyle and Murray and bring back Irwin and our D has already been re-built with youth and skill, added a veteran or two. Add we have youth in the goal. Up front, our main issue is we probably have one of the worst bottom six mix's in hockey meaning; teams simply focus their grind on Thornton, Marleau, Couture, Havlat and Pavelski knowing we have little to nothing to follow, thus the other issue of why they are being shut down in scoring as we see. So youth needed up front but going to need youth with hockey skills. Thornton and Marleau are only 33, putting pieces around them in the forwards would keep us in contention. ... eg. Moving Clowe, Handzus, Murray, Burish and Galiardi immidiately to soon and thus revamping the 3rd and 4th lines almost completely, albeit holding on to the only pieces of value there in Sheppard, Wingels and Desjardins and mix them in with 3 competent newcomers. To me, this is almost a must, nevermind trading your top line players, this should be first and formost.[/B]

Something around ROR for Pavelski?

We badly need defense, but we also just as badly need to scoring skill that doesn't 100% revolve around lobbing it into the crease and having everyone bumrush the goaltender hoping to knock it in.

Clowe+Demers to NYR for Hrvik+Skjei.

I posted in the other thread Clowe+Murray for one of Hrvik/Skjei+Thomas.

Nash-Richards-Gaborik
Clowe-Stepan-Callahan
Kreider-Miller-Hagelin (nice speed here)
Powe-Boyle/Halpern-Pyatt

McDonagh-Girardi
Staal-Demers
Del Zotto-Stralman

Looks very good. We can run 3 lines playing 15 minutes a night and a 4th that can play 10. That D corps is probably one of if not the deepest D in the East.

Marleau won't waive his NMC, not matter what. The only way he doesn't retire a Shark is if they fail to offer him a contract. Pavelski seems pretty tied to the SJ, but might accept a trade to Minnesota. JT would probably be more willing to waive, but only to go East as it put him closer to his family and a bit closer to Switzerland for his wife's family. Havlat has an NMC as well, but might waive if the team seriously goes into a re-build.

If the Sharks do a re-build I would move (in this order of preference):

Murray
Clowe
Burish (if anyone wants him)
Handzus (if he would waive)
Boyle (good package only)
Niemi (good package only)
Thornton (good package only, assumes he waives)
Havlat (good package only, assumes he waives)

Start with those and see how any new talent comes in how the team does. If things are still looking like crap next year, consider moving Pavelski in the last year of his deal.

And of course, fire Doug Wilson and Roy Sommer as soon as possible.

Okay, let's try a different aisle then:

How much for Marleau or Pavelski? 2013 1st on the table, etc...

Colorado needs to add to that since O'Reilly wants more money than Pavelski and he's unsigned. Pavs has proven a lot more too.

odd.

Also wouldnt mind pevelski to anaheim
Sorry, Sharks likely wouldn't care to do business with Anaheim. And yes, when you start out winning seven in a row things look awesome. When you follow that up with seven losses, it looks a little worse. Imagine that!

Really? Havlat and Hemsky are a wash, Gagner would hold a little more value than Clowe given age, current play and contract status (impending RFA vs UFA), Marincin is more valuable than waiver wire Petrecki, the 1sts could be a wash, then you've got a 19 and 22yr old stars in the making vs 1 and a half years of two 33 yr olds who are established stars but paid accordingly (13.9 mil combined). Don't like the offer based on the players involved (like The Juxtaposer already mentioned)? Then fine, I realize HFB hates on Gagner, but don't act like the value is a slap in the face like your counter suggests.

What would you guys want for just Thornton? Choice of Paajarvi/Hartikainen, choice of Musil/Marincin, 1st 2013, 2nd 2014?

Greening + Puempel + 3rd for Marty Havlat

Also have lots of interest in Galiardi or Demers for the right price. Would take Murray for a 4th or later.

That's not close for Marleau. Nothing interests me from Vancouver for Marleau.
