Like it or not, but Eller is a good trade bait to get a big player in our lineup.

To get something good, you have to give value. Eller might go in a trade for a very good player. We'll see.

How do you build character?

I wonder if it's what MT is doing with Eller....
It's either that or MT don't really like this type of player.

Whatever MT is doing.....it's seems to be working!!!

Eller is building charactere and work ethic.
He wants more and it shows on the ice.

If he get his chance, he will give it all and do everything he can to keep his place.
You cherish way more what you've earned throught hard work. Only then we will know what Eller can do.

That's why i think we should wait before even think about trading Eller.

The habs are healthy now.
But let's say DD is injured....Eller will be more than welcome

The habs are 8-4-1....things are going well.
If a team wants Eller, they must make an offer that MB can't refuse.

I personally think Eller will not amount to much more than 3rd liner, could manage 2nd line but only with proven linemates. To me he just seems to lack heart, no grit. just my opinion

Eller is becoming the player I was hoping he would become! Kudos to MT.

I would give him more time to prove himself (and increase his value). If Galchenyuk become our #1 C and Eller become a waste on the 3rd-4th then it will be logical to move him .

For now let's wait!!! I'll be very mad if we trade him for an utility player or a draft pick .

Who said MB is the one discussing Eller? GMs pick up the phone and try to get a deal involving Eller. Therefore, he is being proposed as part of a trade, independant of MB's desires.

MB has to listen to these offer; you don't start hanging up on other GMs

I would like to see MT try Eller on right wing with Pleks and Bourque and move Gionta to right wing on 4th line and sit Armstrong. I know everyone will stroke at the idea of putting a player making $5 M per year on the 4th line but, quite honestly, I don't see Gionta adding value to the Pleks line. He has a big heart and provides a lot of energy but he provides little or no help to Pleks or Bourque on offence. He's certainly better than Armstrong on the 4th imo as he plays with a lot of heart and energy.

From what little I've seen of Eller playing right wing I'm convinced that he is more productive there than at centre and is certainly better on right wing than on left wing. He's certainly being wasted on the 4th imo. I think he would help Plek's and Bourque's offensive game as his puckhandling, vision, passing and shooting is superior to Gio's and he's a big body who can win puck battles in the corners and on the boards. In addition to this, Bourque and Pleks would also help Eller offensively as well and Eller is just as defensively aware as Gio.

While he's at it, I think MT should move Emelin to the left side where he is more comfortable and effective and move Gorges to the right side where he looked very good last year.

Doubt if any of this will happen but that's just my 2 cents.

Eller is the type of player you regret trading for years. size, speed, and offensive upside at a young age. Also when he isn't scoring he can contribute defensively. Never say never but the return for this player must be a clear win for Mtl. My two cents...er two nickles now I guess.

Even if he results in a 3rd liner, why would you get rid of him if he is a solid 2 way 3rd liner? Yeah the trade may have been lopsided but make the best of the hand that was dealt. Even if it gets proven that he can't put up enough points on a top 2 line then having a quality 3rd line center is always a good thing.

Not advancing anything, just speculating. Relax. You are in the Eller trade thread after all.

Would you do it?

If Eller is traded, I'd bet on the return being a young winger having trouble finding his place on his current team. Frolik, MPS... I wouldn't hold out much hope for a quantity for quality deal, and none at all for ROR.

You and I have differing views on heart and grit it seems. I think he has both, nothing has shown he lacks either. In fact, with the way he has been handled in Montreal since his arrival, its amazing he signed with us for nothing last summer and doesn't pout about his lack of ice time this year.

Also, if he does wind up "only" a defensively reliable (which he already is) Center who can easily chip in 40 points and cover 2nd line minutes in a pinch,we're laughing. That's a great thing to have considering who the 2 centers ahead of him should be. That's a luxury a lot of teams don't have, and if Galchenyuk winds up as good as we think he could be, and Eller stays even just at what he already is, we'd have arguably the best center depth in the league behind maybe only a couple of teams. Plekanec is so underrated outside of Montreal. He's a top 30 center in this league and has proved it time and time again. If you want to argue he's a 2nd line center, then he's one of the best 2nd liner in the NHL. Don't want to jinx anything but we all know at least the potential Galchenyuk has so if he hits it..find me 5 teams with better centers than that?

I hope if someone has to be traded (personally I'd try DD on wing..why this hasn't happened yet is beyond me) I'd have to let DD go. I think we would regret it terribly if we let Eller go. Unless its a really hard to say no to trade, I wouldn't move him over DD if it comes down to that.

Unfortunately, I don't see the value in Eller as the rest of you. He is a very good skater, he has good size, but doesn't make great plays from the blue line in. As a centerman, you need to have a great feel for the game...be instinctual on the ice.
This is something Eller does not have. If we can get O'Reilly...we should...though he will sit unless he is prepared to receive similar terms that was offered to PK.

We can safely say that there will be no deal for ROR, for reasons bolded.

DD can make plays that Eller can't...trade Eller if the market is right...otherwise put Eller on the wing!!! For me, DD always was successful wherever he went. He was always underestimated at every level of hockey. He can certainly become the next Martin St-Louis.

Third line minute at worst....
If Montreal was to trade for O'Reilly it would be to play with Cole and Pacioretty.
Deasharnais days are numbered (Thank God)

Can't have a tiop six with Plekanec Gionta and Gallagher in it.

Plekanec is Montreals best forward, Gionta is the captain and plays wing and Gallagher is a young wing with tons of promise.

See ya Desharnais don't let the door hit you on the way out!

Not a chance in hell he becaomes like Matin St-Louis
St-Louis has speed to burn and is very strong on the puck.

IF anyone can be like St-Louis for Montreal it would Gallagher

Get rid of Desharnais ASAP and let Eller play his natural position

I'd trade Eller and Beaulieu for ROR in a second if not for contract complications.
