I made that topic, half joking, and soon after SJ started nose diving.

Sharks have a similar problem to the Oilers - they need the top line and PP to be dominant to have any chance at winning.

no secondary scoring other than from Couture.

Thornton is a great player and I'd love to have him, but this is the type of slump where he just needs to crash the net and get some gritty goals.

I actually thought at the start of the year they might make it in 7th or 8th; the hot start was completely unexpected and I think skewed everyone's perceptions.

Like Washington, I think SJ is kinda stuck in no man's land right now.

At least there were no three point games today, although Dallas winning isn't a good thing...

It does not matter about Dallas or anyone else winning it matters that we win we cannot hope that other teams lose enough for us to get in playoffs.

Yep normally the Canucks getting beat is awesome... but Dallas is one team that's likely to be a direct competitor for a playoff spot for the Oilers. It's pretty much a guarantee the Canucks will win the division.

Well it's going to be extremely tight even if the Oilers get it together.

There could be literally a handful of pts separating a half dozen teams or more by the end of the season. It's usually pretty bunched up in a regular 82 game season and in a 48 game schedule it'll be even more so.

Haha... the Canucks collapsed.

Anyway, the Oilers are going to have to go on a four or five game winning streak here and play .500 hockey on that 9 game roadtrip to stay in the hunt.

Don't look now but we're suddenly 4 points back of the Sharks...

Everybody close to the middle of the pack and yet barely out of the bottom five in the league. It's absurd.

Loser points = horrible.

They aren't loser points... they are tokens of appreciation and gratitude for participating and helping to achieve parity for the benefit of a strong and vibrant Kommunity of comrades bonded together by the unity and power of the life-giving extra points that ensures abundant success and winning records for all.

Realistically, I only see 4 or 5 teams in the league who are worse than the Oilers so far.

A question about Ladislav Smid... He's played RD before this year, correct? Is he better this year playing LD than in the past playing RD?

Yeah they've experimented him on the right side in previous years. But he looks much more comfortable on the left side. There are interviews where he says he much prefers the left side. During the years or 09 and 10. Dark dark years when the oilers iced an AHL defense.

My list would be the same except I'd swap the Isles out (they've been pretty competitive so far) and put the Jets in.

Funny how Toews gets 2 minutes for unsportsmanlike play for instigating a fight with a visor on instead of getting an extra 4 minutes in penalties for it .

Nope. Ladi and I don't think it's funny.

Calgary has put Blair Jones on waivers. He's won 59% of faceoffs and appears to provide what we need for our bottom 6. Puzzling move by this team too given their astonishing lack of center depth. This guy probably won't make it through waivers.
