Thornton looks like he could've absolutely pummeled him.

Good on Thornton for not going a little harder. To be honest, I think he knows why it happened, is fully aware that he's much stronger and bigger than Toews, and may have even respected Toews for sticking up for himself... sort of.
After getting crosschecked like that, I know I would've been pretty pissed. Thornton kept his cool.
This is exactly why Toews called him out. I have found a flicker of respect for Thorton for not trying to hurt Toews this time around and my Toews love has gone up another notch for standing up to the likes of Dumbo Joe!

Technically yes they have been beaten 3 times ... in a shoot out for all 3.
Don't know about you but I don't really consider a shoot loss the same as a loss in regulation or OT.
It is a team sport after all regardless of Bettman's skills competition at the end.
And their record so far this year reads 11 - 0 - 3

I love when superstars drop the gloves. I love it even more when they go at each other. Clear victory for Thornton here as we would expect but I'll give Toews props, he dropped the gloves.

We have another 15 games before that one!
You saying the Hawks will go 21 - 0 - 8 give or take till then?!
That's some kind of record for the ages!
Either way the only wins that really count are the 16 in the post season.
But until then I hope we get to really enjoy the ride.

Well guess what, that also works for every other situation, especially with Shanahan and his discretionary fines for this or that play, so that means we can just get rid of the instigator already, right? If Toews can indirectly get rid of the instigator, he really is Menno Superman.
They gave him the unsportsmanlike because he was already getting a penalty in the play, and they didn't want to give him yet another with the visor penalty.

You realize any player could hurt any other....at any time on the ice?

Thornton didn't hurt Toews.

Thornton still has no Stanley Cup ring.

Toews wins?

Without regular season wins there is no playoffs.

So Hawks are not guaranteed sell outs? I think I would disagree with that considering that they have a sellout streak of around 200.

Maybe you are thinking of the Hawks 5 years ago, when the home games weren't on tv? Not sure where you been if that's the case.

Its funny that you are still stuck in 2010. This thread is about Toews attempting to fight Joe and failing at it miserably. Toews was lucky enough to have Joe let him go.

Go ahead and talk about Toew's SC win in another thread.

Because the sharks always let whoever wants to push them around do just that without any retaliation or anger.

Toews can fight Thornton 10 times and Thornton will go easy every time.

I think it all ties in but hey that's just my opinon.
Toews stands up to Thorton last night mostly because of Thorton's cheap shot to Toews' head last season which put him out with a concussion for the remainder of the season ( a concussion that took until November to fully heal ).
Thorton targeted Toews perhaps ( and this is my opinion not backed by any fact ) because of Toews tremendous success ( Olympic Gold, Junior Gold, Stanley Cup, Conn Smythe ... ) compared with Thorton's relative lack of success.
Ya gotta admit that a guy like Thorton could be a little pissed that a young gun like Toews gets all the
attention/success while he year in and year out has to settle for the booby prize.

Funny fight, JT vs JT. Would've been pretty funny to see Joe Thornton actually fight, but it's good nonetheless. Big ups to Toews for picking a fight with Jumbo Joe. I am jealous of the Blackhawks this season.
