Arnaud playing fairly well. I actually want him to stay with the team. He is a veteran of the league and he can share his experience with the rest of the team.

Really like the way we are playing defensively. Offensively, outside of the Pisanu goal, we have been struggling. Nothing good comes out of the left side. Brovsky should try to get up the field more and Mapp, well, he just isn't that good.

Arnaud isn't playing badly, but he isn't creating anything either. If anyting, I would use him as the holding midfielder and play Bernier next to Felipe. That being said, I hope that spot is Romero's on March 2nd.

No way Arnaud can play as a holding midfielder. Neither his vision or passing are good enough for that position.

As I said earlier, Arnaud is better as an advanced midfielder, but he still make too much for what he brings.

Looks like this is going to be our starting lineup for the 1st game. Schalli doesn't seem to be sold on Warner at all.

I'd love to see Eber come in for Arnaud and slot in beside Felipe in the middle of the 4141

Pisanu out, Warner in. Arnaud to the wing and we seem to have switched to a 4-2-3-1.

Romero came in for Arnaud and is playing on the right wing.

I'd like to see Eber as well.

Edit: I like the fact that Nesta is still on the pitch and still looking physically sharp.

Great strike but Brovsky or Camara should have cleared that away...

Only defensive misap of the game and it costs us

In an interview on Extratime Radio this week, Bernier was asked who was the most underappreciated player in Montreal.

He said Warner.

The final is a whole week away. I wonder what the plan is for the next week.

I have a feeling they are still very much in the experimental stage with the formation of the team.

But whatever it is, I feel like we have really good depth. We should be able to deal with injuries much better than we did last year, and hopefully better than most other teams.

Yes we're playing in the final next week. Is it going to be the last friendly game before the season starts?

We're playing with a different formation under Schalli but nothing much has changed since last season. We're still struggling a lot to build the play. We really need a deep lying playmaker. Actually, in a 4-2-3-1 we could play without a deep lying playmaker, but if Schalli is willing to play a 4-1-4-1 or 4-3-3- we're going to struggle a lot. Neither Bernier, Warner or Camara or good at DM.

If we're planning to sign a DP this summer then I'd look for a DM.

What is that? I also would like to know what is a "box to box" midfielder too, thank you. And what names do you have in mind for the DP you want.

Deep lying playmakers are midfielders who play in a defensive position but are used to start the attack, similar to how Xabi Alonso was/is used at liverpool and Real Madrid. Their main attribute is spread the play and dictate the game. Another example is Pirlo.

A box to box midfielder is a midfielder that excels in both defensive and offensive tasks. They cover the whole length of the field hence the name box-to-box. Some example of box to box midfielders are Yaya Toure, Viera when he played at Arsenal.

K, well isn't that was Bernier was last season? He was excellent at getting threw balls and aerial passes.

Deep Lying midfielder is a midfielder that plays very deep, close to the defenders whom almost all the plays get built through him. You might call him a holding midfielder if you want, but for me a holding midfielder is a bit more defensive minded while a DLM can play a defensive role as well as playing a crucial role building up the play. Think of a player like Pirlo. Usually a coach build a formation around the DLM because he's the best player of the team and have great vision. This is why I think if we're to play 4-3-3 or 4-1-4-1 the DM should have the characteristics of a DLM because we have no one right now that can build a play properly from our zone.

A Box-to-Box midfielder are usually hard workers that excel both defensively and offensively. Think of players like Vidal and Marchision with Juve. This position require unreal stamina. Edgar Davids was one of the best that ever played this role. Those players run like horses.

I have no idea of any DP to play that role, these are not easy to find at all.

EDIT: Didn't see the part about Box to Box, Mids, but Capt. Saku explained it accurately above, so no need to repeat myself

Deep Lying playmaker is basically a defensive mid (That isn't just defensive minded) that can get stuck in and win the 50/50 balls, but that can also find a pass from his dposition, and thread it in. Normally, these kind of players are in systems that love building up from the back and passing the ball around.

So yes, it is some sort of a box to box MF, but instead of getting to the attacking 18 yard box, he normally passes the ball earlier on and remains around 25-30 yards out of goal.

Xabi Alonso could be considered as one.
