Oh yes, I'd take Jones also. Just my personal belief that Drouin is the most skilled in the draft. That being said, if Jones is at 2 or 3 I'd take easily take him based off of needs also.

I havent seen enough of Drouin to comment on him. but by everything that I have heard I probably wouldnt complain if we got Mckinnon or Drouin at 2 or 3 if Jones went 1st. This is by all accounts a very deep draft for defenseman. I know our track record for developing defenseman is poor but they need to start drafting defenseman and let them develop and for God sakes have some ******* patience.

this team is a Bryz injury away from securing the 2nd pick.

Nichushkin is definitely on that level.

I fully expect the Flyers to trade their first round pick in a desperation move.

Im going to say probably this years pick and next year 1st. Plus other picks too. 2nd rounder and 3rd? It would cost a lot.

I don't think there would be any chance they give up the chance to draft Jones. He is the biggest hype defender coming into the draft probably since EJ. I just hope he would be a better player than him. Which seems like he will.

he would fill a desperate need in the organization. We have nobody even remotely close to him on the backend in the organization.

I'd like them to trade someone to get another first and draft 2 defenseman, which would really boost our defensive prospects pool. I would have said : if we suck, we trade Kimmo at the deadline for a 1st, but I don't see it happening now that he has been extended. I just don't know who to trade for a 1st, but the idea of getting two great D prospects to develop together sounds exciting. Our pick would have been high, and the acquired pick would have been lower since it would be a playoff team pick, We could have drafted like Ristolainen + Hagg.

Also, if we could buyout Pronger and then hire him as a defensive coach for the prospects, that would be huge. Or hire Kimmo next year.

And I wouldn't want us to trade Laughton. He has shown signs of brillance already and plays like Mike Richards, which is always good. His value is not that high right now for what he could become, it wouldn't be a profitable move for us.

we really have no pieces to trade. I think keeping all our picks will be as much as we can do interms of the draft.

This upcoming draft will be an excellent consolation prize for what is turning out to be a dreadful season...

Here is what Craig custance said about Nichushkin. He did a mock of the top 10 for this years draft. He also has us selecting Rasmus Ristolainen at 8th overall, which by the end of the week I think we will be slightly lower. We have more games played than everyone below us right now, and will have another one today. It would be nice if we could get Seth Jones and draft Rasmus Ristolainen to have him play with Kimmo for the year. Imagine the learning the kid could endure with Kimmo. From one Finn to another.

This is higher than most project Nichushkin but we're trusting a couple respected scouts who absolutely love him. If the Avalanche are willing to take a risk on a Russian at this point, the payoff could be huge. Ignoring his country of origin for a moment, the talent is high end.

"As a hockey player, he's a horse. [He] has Malkin potential," said one European scout. "I have seen the top three names and he should be one or two on the list based on hockey only, not passport."
I get very leery when they compare anyone to a player of Malkins caliber. If more than one scout is loving him though, he might be the steal of the draft. He could drop out of the top 5-7 too solely because of the Russian factor.

EDIT: It's an Insider article. Which I haven't renewed since I was probably 18 and still have access to..... I wonder when that will change lol.

If we lose Bryz were the worst team in the league on paper. Our goalie depth consists of Leighton and Boucher.

Agreed. Laughton has that make up that he's going to be a key performer come playoff time and that he's going to be the guy to take all those critical draws. His upside is very much a Dave Poulin-esque performer.

What has Nichushkin said about playing in NA? Is this going to be another Tarasenko situation where he's clearly a great player who's yelling into deaf ears about wanting to play in the NHL?

Tarasenko came over when he felt he was ready. I don't think St. Louis had a problem waiting 3 years for him to come over. Same with whoever drafts Nichushkin. He's going to be worth the wait.

Man really lowered those chances of getting 1st overall. I kinda like it though.

Not sure about that, but those pecentages from McKenzie are for the 1st overall pick. Might be the same percentages as the old lottery sytem when a team could only move up 4 spots max.

Ristolainen isn't playing in the NHL next year.
