Streit and Ottawa

If Ottawa isn't folding the tents with Karlsson and Spezza (and maybe Machalek) out, what would they give for Streit to fill the gap? With Visnovsky now, as well as solid additions in Finley, Strait and Hickey, Streit isn't needed, and his UFA status makes him a potentially attractive rental.

They'll probably bid up Streit's value so they can get more for Gonchar.

probably a mid round pick... like someone said... Defensemen seem to be going for a 5th.. Seeing as I actually really like Streit and he could be useful for the Sens i'd say probably a 4th.

You're not getting Streit for anything short of a very good prospect and a pick, most likely a first rounder.

I really hope you're joking... an aging veteran who's a free agent at season's end who the OP just said is not needed because of guys you picked up on waivers for a top prospect + a pick? that's laughable.

So is he wanted or not wanted in NYI? Ottawa isn't moving anything special to replace our injured players.

I'd rather not go the stop-gap route and just stay the course.

To me it depends on how the Sens view themselves. If they consider themselves contenders even without those players, it might be worth it to them to avoid slipping out of contention by plugging in Streit. On the Island he's something of a luxury, because he's similar to Visnovsky, who is better than him.

However, if Ottawa doesn't want to pay value, it might be worth it for the Isles to hold him til the deadline.

I was thinking a decent prospect and a mid-round pick (maybe Stone + 4th ?)

He's wanted, but not needed, as Visnovsky is a similar but better player. He's a luxury.

Understandably. Didn't know if the team saw itself as a contender (thus willing to take a chance) or a hang-in-there.

Ottawa management has made it clear they don't want to make any trades for band-aid fixes.. If they are going to make any moves they want them to be long-term commitments.. kind of like the Rundblad for Turris type deal.

What possible reason would Snow want to see Ottawa stay in the playoff race, when Snow hopes to see his own team sneak in?

Depends on the return. If Ottawa pays enough to stay in it, it makes sense. Snow's shown he doesn't wait til the deadline when it comes to pending UFAs.

Then you move him at the April 5th trade deadline. If the isles are in sniffing distance of an eastern conference playoff spot, move Streit to a western conference team.

If the isles are out of the race, move Streit to the highest bidder, regardless of whether it's an eastern conference team or a western conference team.

Hard to believe that with Tavares and Wang talking playoffs, that Snow is going to help one of the eastern conference teams that are having injury problems, right their ship.

I made a similar argument in a NYI/Philly proposal,

It would have to be a very calculated risk. You look at the trade and say, is it worth making the move now rather than wait til the deadline, and will Streit help that team as much as you think he might? I think for the right return, I'd take that chance. But as mentioned, Ottawa has said that they aren't going to do band-aids.

Streit is the kind of player that will hold good trade value because he brings an element that many contending teams will be looking for. This means that unless we get a good return for him, we keep him until we do get that good offer (which we will eventually for sure at the deadline) or we simply keep him to continue to make a push ourselves and probably sign him for next year

At the deadline teams will give up more value for than they would now imo

Sens have no interest in Streit unless it's as a cap dump for peanuts going the other way, which is pretty unlikely.

We're so boned this year, it makes no sense to go out and pay valuable assets for a 35+ UFA-to-be. We'll just ride it out with our kids unless one of the following two trade scenarios play out:

1) we can move some future assets (prospects, picks) for young NHLers with upside who fit into our long-term plans (think the Turris deal)
2) we can acquire some bargains on guys who might be available on the cheap (Whitney in Edmonton, or a "Tangradi for a 5th" type deal).

Streit-to-Ottawa would be neither of those things.

I bought the Campoli trade up in another Streit thread. If Snow was able to squeeze a late first out of a team for Campoli+, then I would think he can squeeze either a late first or a good prospect+ 2nd out of some team for Streit, at the trade deadline.

We are seeing teams scrambling for blueline help. They are kicking the tires on Sopel, who hasn't played in the NHL for a couple of seasons.
