1 year older, lol.

Stepan had his 45 point season at the same age O'Reilly had his 55 season.

Stepan was 21 last year when he scored 51 points.

thats a very good point.. is it just he doesnt want to be in Colorado, or does he really think he's better than what they think he's worth?

O'Reilly scored 26 points as an 18 year ol and 19 year old. Stepan was still playing at Wisconsin those years.

I thought you were saying trade Stepan + MDZ for ROR + a defenseman.

Id rather keep Stepan over MDZ though.

Friedman said the Avs are not interested in getting a center back, they want an offensive defensemen (which is why they like MDZ) AND a proven forward (not one or the other)

Yes. But thats what negotiations are for.

Arent getting anything at all from O'Reilly if he continues to refuse to play.

Much older age, lol. When O'Reilly was born Stepan was already 8 months old. He was almost much bigger and heavier! Sure O'Reilly started a year earlier. In O'Reilly 2nd season he had 26 points in 74 games. Prorated that's less than 29 points. That was his SECOND season. At almost the same age Stepan had 45 points in his ROOKIE year.

I agree with you that ROR is handling this contract situation poorly by trying to cash in after only one good offensive year.
However, I seriously don't think he will end up being the next Brian Boyle.

He keeps playing like garbage and he's a compliance buy out after the 13-14 season.

34 year old, 6.6 per for 6 more years at that point...

The other guys are clearly more long-term.

O'Reilly, Stepan, Miller, Lindberg

22, 22, 19, 20 respectively. All in pro hockey, not at lower levels.

so maybe we should see if the Avs want Richards as the proven forward then. in all seriousness, if we buy out Richards we need a #1 center, neither ROR or Stepan are that.

I know that.

But as much as you want to conclude how many years pro had a big difference, I would argue that physical development is just as age dependent.

But it doesnt really matter. Both are 22 year old 50+ point guys.

The conversation about ROR for Stepan begins and ends with the idea that he's better suited to our brand of hockey than Stepan is. A lot of people complain about how Stepan and Callahan are a bad fit because of their respective styles. Well, having ROR instead would solve that. His effect on the team would be greater than a simple matter of how many points he puts up vs Stepan.

That being said, he's going to have a cap hit 1.5-2m greater than what we are expecting to see Stepan get this summer. I haven't run the numbers, but I'm not 100% sure we can afford to do that.

O'Reilly scored 26 points in his second season at 19. Stepan scored 45 points in his rookie year at 20. Don't pretend like Stepan was 25 when he started playing.

Two roster players of lesser value? Sure. Something along the lines of Step+MDZ? Nope, won't happen. ROR is an RFA and can be had for draft picks.

something like Del Zotto and a Pyatt maybe (Rangers POV) something along those lines. obviously Del Zotto would be the main piece.

I think they would rather have prospects. Maybe theyll take Zucc.

Look at years from the draft. O'Reily scored 55 points in his third year from his draft. On a terrible team.

Stepan scored 45.

O'Reilly scored those points while playing against the other teams best players consistently.

Stepan was getting sheltered minutes.

One thing I have to question.. is ROR a Torts kind of player? I mean he's had one good season out of 3 (yes I know, he was young), and he's already holding out thinking he's worth much more than what the Avs are offering.. Is this something Torts wants or would put up with?
