Daniel Alfredsson to contender

What would it take to acquire Alfie by trade deadline?

Keep in mind this draft is stacked and Alfie is likely gone after the playoff run.

This is assuming Ottawa cannot overcome the Spezza/Karlsson/Cowen injuries.

Not even if they're clearly out of the picture?

Yes. He's not going to be traded. What will happen is the management will ask if he would like a shot at the Cup, if he says no, then it's a no. If he says yes, obviously we would accommodate. Chances are he will say no.

Since this is a hypothetical thread,

probably conditional pick and a prospect.

condition being 2nd round, 1st if they win the cup.

If he wants to take a shot at the cup, we'll move him without question. But he won't, so it won't happen.

He has already gone on record and said that winning a Stanley Cup doesn't mean anything to him if he can't win one as a member of the Ottawa Senators.

I'm quite certain that management will accommodate his wishes.

Nope. We would love for him to get a Cup if that is what he wishes. We are simply telling you what'll happen.

I would say the typical trade deadline superstar rental fee, a first, roster player, and fairly good prospect.

Alfie would be dynamite on a contending team, and this is coming from a Leafs fan.

The ball is in his court IMO. If he wants a shot at a Cup and we're out of the playoff picture then obviously Murray will try to do his best to accomodate him, but I can see him playing it out with the Sens.

IF! and only IF Alfie changed his mind about wanting a last hoorah for the cup and were are out of it... I'd say a pick + prospect/young roster player.

Jordan Schroeder
Chris Tanev
David Booth

all come to mind... i'd say Raymond but he's a pending UFA

He's really not a superstar anymore.

The guy is playing on the Sens' top-six because there isn't anyone better on the roster, but at this point in his career, he's probably more of a 3rd line player on a Cup contender.

He's missing a step, and doesn't have the ability to beat people one-on-one to create offense like he used to be able to.

It's completely understandable what Senator fans are saying here. I agree with the point that if Ottawa is clearly out of it management can ask if he wants a shot with a contender, and then the choice would be up to him. It's a tough choice, because if you know he is going to retire next year it is always nice to get value, but when it might be the franchises most important play ever then the sentimental part of him retiring part of the organization might be worth it. If I had to make a guess I think he stays and retires with the Senators. If he did want to go to a contender, I think Vancouver would be a really nice fit. He then gets to play with some of the best Swedish players right now, the Sedins and Edler, for a very solid chance at a cup.

See Ray Bourque. Ive never been left to believe that Alfredsson was a guy that valued a cup over being loyal. A cup would solidify his career. A cherry on top. He might not come out and say that but I think deep down that's were his.heart lies. Hes too proud to admit he.wants a.cup publicly.

As a pure rental, I'd say he's probably worth a 2nd at the deadline. If he asks to be traded, then I don't see Ottawa trying to hold out to maximize the return. If he doesn't, then he won't be traded at all.

There would be too many buyers out there at the deadline. If Ottawa wanted to move Alfie and if he wanted to go, then the Sens would easily get a good prospects, a 1st and maybe a roster player.

I dont like the guy but he is definitely worth that and with this shorten season he could be worth more.

Don't think he has produced enough this year to be worth that. I see him going for a 1st easily + good prospect needing scenery change. Of course this hinges on him asking for a trade and choosing where he goes. Oh and I love the guy, Leaf fans just bitter. But in all seriousness how can you hate a guy like Alfie, when you have Phaneuf as your avatar, I mean if we are talking hypocritical lol.

Paul Gaustad got a 1st last year. There will be plenty of teams willing to pay much more than that for Alfredsson. Goal-scoring wingers will always be in high demand at that time.

Alfredsson will likely be retiring the following year, though. You bring up a fair point about Gaustad, but that most certainly isn't the norm. I would be pretty upset if the Canucks traded away a first for him.

This.

IF Alfie goes to management and asks for one last opportunity to win a cup (the only scenario in which an Alfie trade is even worth talking about), you can bet he'll get more than Gaustad got.
