Let's not forget he's improved by leaps and bounds. As much of a fan favorite he was at the WJs, he looked slow and weak on his skates compared to players of his age. He spent most of the tournament on his butt, ala Benoit Pouliot. At the beginning of the season in the AHL I thought his speed was decent and his shot sometimes weak, while precise.

Needless to say I'm to see him blowing past people tonight and maybe being the best player on the ice for both teams!

Gionta with more truculence and less pure hockey (skating, shooting) talent...

Doubt he ever tops gionta's best year (84pts), but could see him average similar #'s for his career.

Hope I'm underestimating him!

He's a 5th round pick so at this point he only has upside. Even if he only produces 15 goals, that's still great for a 5th round pick. We found ourselves a real gem in him.

But the thing is... He had the statistic of a first rounder: WHL 71-41-40-81. I really didn't understand why he didn't get draft sooner..? I know that his size was the main reason.... But when you are able to get those types of points at that age with the attitude he has... Its a no-brainer for me. I always believed in this guy, my favorite player!

I think Gally is on par with gionta... He's 20 and improving at a fast rate...

For Gio's best season.. Yeah won't happen... Those years we're anomalies after the lockout...

I was pissed when the nucks didn't draft him. I watched him in his WHL days including this crazy goal.

Gally is all heart and those who call him soft do not know anything about hockey. I am green with envy about you guys having such a gem. The way he's transitioned into the NHL is amazing...hell his transition to the AHL was already impressive considering how many players take a long time to adjust to the AHL. 5th rounder my ass.

I've been following Gallagher for about 2.5 years now and I absolutely adore this kid. His heart, his tenacity, his drive, his passion...
I love his ability to always be open, to shoot the puck as soon as he gets it, and to always make the play.
I think Gally could be a 40 goal scorer.

Given what happened to him last game vs Leafs, this guy showed incredible competitiveness and fighting spirit. Most "soft" guys would have played timidly if the same thing happened to them.

Everyone's "soft" at 18 years old. To be able to play in the NHL at that age and still look good is nuts.

Well then you're going to want the Habs to take a flyer on Nicolas Petan this summer. 5'9 170lbs centre ranked in the early-mid 2nd round despite having 101 points and +61 in 59 games as a 17 year old in the WHL.

I wonder if he's going to be comparable to what Gionta was in his prime.

Gallagher's shot isn't as good as Gionta's but his release is still excellent. He also is way bigger and stronger and is a way better stick handler. As much as Gionta has better shooting and skating, Gallagher is way, way more well rounded and he's only 20. I could see him be a 20G scorer or better in the NHL. Bravo Timmins

Regardless of what they'll say, as I'm sure we're going to hear "upper body injury", it looks like a concussion to me (as you watch his head get crushed into the glass). Too bad they let Schenn get away with it.

He won't top Gionta's best year but I think he's more skilled than Gio. Minus the skating but I'm really shocked at his speed now.

His goal today was pure goal scorer. Snap it quick, don't wait. The little guy is deadly. I cannot believe he made this club this quickly.

Injuries worry me. Gio needs to teach him how to stay safe. Otherwise, jeezus, what a pick.

I definitely did not believe in him in his draft year, have to say. I see a lot of smaller guys who can be a bit feisty and put up points in junior, but it is rare to see them progress to the NHL when they aren't that quick. But Gallagher has trained really hard and really gained ground in terms of his quickness overall, and he did it in a comparatively short time... realization and dedication applied at an earlier age than some skilled/smaller players who don't quite figure out how much harder they still have to work until they start to encounter some difficulties. Gallagher pre-empted all that.

Loved seeing him so far this year and it definitely looks like he can be a consistent top-6 player in the NHL!

His shot tonight was ridiculous, quick release and a pretty hard shot.

But with that said.... Imagine if this guys was 6'-6'1 damn would it look good
He would most probably be our best forward. Damn I love Gally
He would not be a Hab since he would have been a first round pick and in fact he might not even be that much better.
