I'd laugh if the Islander rumors are true and Whitney really goes as part of a package for Streit and some other.

That would be a steal. But probably not worth getting excited about unless the Isles were doing it for cap reasons. Didn't they just sign Streit though?

Well that's a given. Haha.

I don't know how any Edmontonian can be a stars fan.
Even though I knew two in my life.

So gross.

Whitney says he could foresee a trade out of Edmonton, but has not requested one.

Who would trade for him?

I am not in the "he's done" camp but man he is way behind the eight ball. He wont be gone anytime soon mainly because there is no bid but he needs to put his head down and take some lead from Gagner. When the critism hit Samwise beared down, did not complain and got it done. Show some professionalism Ryan.

He doesn't care to play here. His twitter account has more enthusiasm than his game play.

Well I've known quite a few girls who were of interest to the stars during their road trips and stays at the hotel. Mr. Modano was a frequent .. guest.

They loved the stars.

Whitney has been the single biggest victim of this team recent evolution and he will NOT be the last one to go before next year because of this evolution and consequential system requirement changes.

Ryan Whitney is top ten in the NHL at the first breakout pass, he is a valuable asset, We would be giving up a lot of value but also dollars in a straight across trade for Konopka.

Ryans career will instantly revive the day he is traded simply because his game isnt off at all, he just plays a one dimensional fastbreak style that gets exposed if he needs to consistantly execute a transitional system template. No harm no foul and we definately dont let anyone tell us he is damaged goods, we just dont have a season to let him rebuild his ticket value, we need to take a hit so it might as well be for a faceoff man as thats all we are missing at this point.

Ryan Smyth was benched because of his lack of focus, Ryan Whitney was benched because of a lack of system suitability, coincidentally the same thing that not yet but eventually will force Smyth out of town. Both are excellent fastbreak specialists, in fact with Horcs and Hemmer they are actually elite at that particular style, i was a fan of keeping them together for a 3rd line role using this fastbreak style, but that only works if your system is compatable with several styles. Ralphs system framework doesnt work that way, he builds a baseline for everyone and asks them all to join him. If you cant or wont jump on board then you might as well jump overboard, ha ha ha. No worries Whitney will be racking up the points fastbreak style soon, hopefully he doesnt go to Van or another enemy team because he really is that good, just not in our system or this teams dynamic future. Its a style issue not a man issue.

I find it strange they would do that.

You know during the Olympics the coaches BAN sexual activity, because having that stuff in your system greatly heightens performance?

I mean it's personal stuff, but from what I've seen they're out on the prowl really often.
I'm wondering if the Oiler getting laid means lethargic on ice performances.

I do not know whether to laugh in disbelief or waste my time responding. Guess my time aint worth too much.

Side to side movement is required in any system. It seems Whitney is now able to move forward but has little to no mobility changing directions. Whitney has been one of if not the worst player on this team for the past 2 seasons. In case you forgot he stunk up last year terribly as well under a different coach and a different system.

Whitney does have a good first pass but does not have the mobility to get into position to use it.

Barring a complete 180 on his overall play, health, and attitude his carrer is unofficaly over. He will go to another team as bottom pairing PP specialist for someone but do not expect him to play more than 15 minutes a game for the rest of his career and for him to be run out of multiple teams before calling it quits. His minus and his points will go hand in hand no matter where he goes if he plays like he has been for the last 2 years.

Saying all that. I hope he does get his career back on path. He was an absolutly fun player to watch on the Oil for all of 35 games. Good luck to him but I would rather not see him play another game in Oiler BLUES.

Travis, you crusty ole somm beach, how you been? thought all the Stars fans in Gibbons had passed away by now.

Whitney's great, he'll be fine. He's just on a shippy hockey club right now. We shouldn't do this, but how about Alex Plante and Ryan Whitney in exchange for your first round selection this summer?

Limited time offer bud........give your buddy Nieuexieuwendyk a call, kay?

I don't think you're even close with that. He'll easily get 2x league minimum.

The tale of two scratched players: Smyth and Whitney

Smyth: 4 shots. 2 points. +1. Angry mofo turns in his best game of the season

Whitney: 0 shots (we had EVERY shot ever taken in history tonight, for the record). 0 points. 0. And that's one of his "better" games.

Scratching is supposed to "make you care". Whitney... Er...

Whitney started poorly tonight but I thought his play picked up as the game went on. Looks to be primarily a confidence issue for him.
