Liles, MacArthur, Komisarek, and Steckel are all expendable, and might be attractive assets to deal to teams looking to bolster their rosters at the trade deadline. Even if the Leafs are in playoff contention at that point, I would still deal all of them for future considerations and replace them with the kids on the farm.
Wouldn't trade Gardiner for a pick..Edmonton is a bad team but they could still finish outside of the top 10.
I think Gardiner has more offense than Schultz. Schultz hasn't impressed me on 5 on 5 at all.
Gardiner can control the game 5 on 5 IMO and is better even outside of a PP.
Justin Schultz has ONE assist in 14 games on ES, where most of the game is played.
Jake Gardiner had 23 points on ES, while only 7 on the PP in limited time.
The Edmonton Oiler scenario is really interesting, Tambellini is no longer in tank mode. As a GM he has pressure to make the playoffs. This is a card that exists and is in play.
Gardiner with Schultz is an angle no different than Luke Schenn.
I think Gardiner in light of Rielly being our #1 prospect that is NHL ready next year is as valuable a trade chip than player for us. He's in the minors right now, so if he stays there for long his value goes down. The all rookie team stuff will wear off soon.
Edmonton may overpay for Jake, a first rd pick in this draft is gold, Klefbom is the only prospect I can see having any value, but if it's a first and a second rd pick, I would certainly think about it.
Mcarthur + a defensemen or a prospect personally is what we should go for. Still can't believe people are really crazy about Radar although he's a good player he isn't the level people expect thats for sure.
With the bolded, who's to say that the same thing won't happen with Gardiner? He is coming off a concussion, which leaves only more question marks. Its basically just a risk that would have to be taken, and I wouldn't oppose that risk.
As far as the whole plus-minus thing, I have been told before that O'Reilly plays against teams top lines in a shutdown role. Since he is taking on better players, obviously the better players are going to score more to. Although I can't factually back that claim up because I have no idea what kind of stat would even cover something like that.
And I should just reiterate that I am a huge Gardiner fan. In fact I'd say when he is on the big club, he is probably my favorite dman.
I just hope RoR sign with some one soon and that we can bring up Gardiner to stop this nonsense about trading him. I think Ryan would fit in here just nice but he is not the #1 center we have been waiting for, simply because he is not a #1 center.
