Injuries can't be the main blame though for this team. Is it a problem...ya, but every other team in the NHL has faced injury problems. It's just that some have figured out how to win with them.

I'll be honest. I liked Lavy but he seems different this season. Very quiet, and doesnt seem like he has control at the moment. He also still has the problems with adjusting the system due to the opponents play. That being said though, this also falls on the players.

Giroux looks lost out there. Inno if not having Jagr killed his confidence but he is playing timid. Last year and the year before he would get the puck and control it. Make the pace of the game follow him. He's not doing it.

Briere...looks the worst since he has been with the team. Don't know how people can defend him with the "playoff hero" bs when he doesnt player the rest of the season. Doubt it happens but during the trade deadline Id talk to him and see if he wants a chance at the cup with another team.

Among the young guys (Read, Couturier, Schenn, McGinn), I think recently Read has been the most consistent. Schenn reminds me of JVR at the moment where some games he looks dominate while others you forget hes playing. Couturier is still pretty good defensively but is a black hole on offense. McGinn is a good role player, but his offensive skills are iffy. Shouldnt be playing higher then 3rd line and even then I would spot him there.

Defense... they havent been AS BAD as last season I think. Timonen looks and plays older, you can tell. Coburn hasnt become a #1 yet, and is in his prime at the moment. L. Schenn started off as our best defender but has slowed down abit. Hasnt been bad but came back to earth. Grossmann is Grossmann. He will clear the porch and play some good defensive hockey but dont expect him to make passes out of the defensive zone too much. Gervias and Foster suck, but Gervias, I think, wouldnt be a bad 6/7. Foster on the other hand should just be spotted games. Homer lost a puckmover in Carle and replaced him in a average puckmover in Gervias and a slapshotter in Foster. Im really hoping Gustafsson can bring some of the puckmoving back.

Team isnt built to compete, thats just a fact. Problems with the coaching and players is why we just under a .500 team.

Why doesn't he wear orange ties anymore. He wore an orange tie every game.

This is clearly the problem.

yeah he would get his full pay which after this year is only 5 mil. the pens have a whole lot of fa's to re-sign not next year but the year after including almost their entire defense, including Letang, as well as Malkin. They could make it work cause they have some space right now but it's not like the flyers don't if they LTIR pronger and amnesty briere.

Don't get me wrong, I love Briere, and I feel he should really stay in the area just for his kids, but he is kind of taking up some space right now. Curious, even if he still get's the yearly pay and someone else signs him, does he still get that year pay plus the new contract money? Also, I wouldn't get rid of Briere unless we knew we were getting Perry.

yeah, he would get all of the money.

i believe you're still allowed to go over the cap by 10 percent so signing Perry and then amnestying Briere wouldn't be a problem.

Being over 26, Briere would receive 2/3rds (3.3M) of his remaining salary on a buyout.

Probably, but we have the room for it. Also, I noticed Perry's pic on NHL.com. Holy **** he's creepy looking.

Still say that Briere doesn't get bought out, especially if Homer isn't canned.

I think the thing that makes the Briere situation unique is his personal life with his kids. Which makes it sometimes hard to say "no".

pretty sure perry would cost more (6.5 i would say) but that doesn't seem to be a problem. i also think laughton makes the team next year but he's on an ELC so that's not a problem. i like it. i think that is a team that if handled properly could be a contender.

not buying out briere would be stupid

We have 19 players signed for next season at 62 of 64m of the cap. Someone's got to go.

That doesn't include Pronger on LTIR.

thats true but you have high quality FA's available this summer and you'll have to re-sign a bunch of our own guys the next year so why handcuff yourself to keep briere. i know you're not advocating the idea i'm just saying.

Oh I know. Like I said, if we do buyout Briere, I hope he retires. I don't want another team to go after him and want him to stay with the people in Philly and stay with his kids (would think keeping his kids where they are would be best for them?).

he'll turn 36 when the next season starts so i wouldn't be surprised to see him retire. his best playing days are def behind him. i have to admit i was never a fan of his on ice play but i got the chance to meet him twice and he's a very nice guy. one time he was at the chickies and petes by the wfc after a game along with sbisa and asham. the other time was at a fight for lives event where i got a pic with him and hartnell. good times.

When Briere's on the ice, we're shorthanded in our end. Just brutal. Love to see him go to Ottawa, where he's from, to replace Spezza.

Perry deserves 7 million... why? That's just absurd.

Does anyone know if there is new terms for how much a contract can be worth up to (percentage wise) of the upcoming cap (with the new CBA)?

I think most of this is is being blown WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY outta proportion,,,,,Geez, its obvious that Roo is struggling for whatever reason, could possibly even be lingering effects of some of last seasons head shots he took ? Harts is out, Mezz is out, Briere got off to a slow start as did many of our lads etc.....The recent Jersey game was one of those games that easily could have gone the other way.....They got the bounces we did not. Then playing the next day up in Montreal we struggled certainly, but so did Jersey against the Isles......There are all kinds of ebbs and flows to a season folks, albeit a short season things are magnified...

This club is not nearly as bad as our record indicates in my view.......The bounces will start going our way and hopefully the lads can string a few together and get the confidence juices flowing for awhile until we get a few of our veterans back.

The Flyers are a top 10-15 team. Full season, they'd recover from this, be a 4-7 seed, maybe win a round.

Is that enough though? Because that is all this team is going to accomplish as assembled until they get a defense and stop wasting minutes and draft picks on guys like sestito.
