For 15k, you could buy 3 gold (36 items, 9-12 rares), 2 premium gold (24 items, 8 rares) or 1 PGJ (24 items, 7-8 rares). So as far as buying one of the 3 "gold" packs, you're making the best decision in buying the standard golds. Rares are way more important in NHL 13, as training cards only last for 1 game.

As far as silver packs go, not worth it IMO. You usually don't even get a single 80+ player and you could get 5 of those on the open market for 2500 pucks.
But you only get one 80+ players, and the "rare" card I get are mostly injury cards T.T

Never buy packs unless you're team is done and you have some extra pucks you don't mind spending. You're far better off working the auction house to make your pucks. I didn't even try searching for steals at all yesterday and I still made 19k. Was just looking at all the SOTW cards and happened to run across a nearly UT SOTW Mueller for 3k at the 2 day 23 hour mark. Sold him for 22k a half hour later.

Just got the game and trying to figure it out. Last years game players had a "career" rating and therefore guys like RNH and Johnansen were better. Is the "career" gone? Also, does training only last so long now? I saw a thing that said something like "training length" with "10" in a card form. I play Fifa Ultimate team and trainings only last 1 game, is this kind of a hybrid between last year (training permanent) and Fifa (training 1 game)?

Just don't want to make a mistake with the guys I got. Got a few good players from my season ticket pack and want to make sure not to screw it up

How does everyone know the face value of all these players.... I'm really clueless when it comes to this. Can anyone help me so that I know if I am getting a steal or what not

Picked up a Clarkson SOTW for $25K. I'd say it's a pretty good deal as most I saw were going for around $40K. And he looks like the ultimate Grinder.

Training lasts for 1 game but there are Duration cards that you cannot stack.

You just got to memorize and browse the market enough.

So you can add a duration card (ex 10) and the training will last 10 games instead, but you can't stack them? Ok. Makes sense. And career is no longer?

And if a player has say 9 slots, can you apply all 9 trainings and then apply the duration card? and they'll get all 9 for the amount of games?

Right about duration. And no career, each card is forever.

All training is counted. Say you put 7/9 and a 15 duration card and then play a game, you can still add 2 more training but only for what you have left for duration.

Thanks for all the info gents. I've been picking up some cards via auction and doing packs, but now I'll just transition to doing mostly the auction house to get some better players. My top 6 have been fairly solid. MZA has been an absolute beast. Emery between the pipes is killing me though

Pretty sure it helps passing and positioning.

It's an invisible attribute multiplier. So it makes all of your players better in every way.

Yeah it makes your team play more like a team, better positioning and getting open on offense as well as boxing out better on defense.

Does fatigue for a goalie come from them playing too many games? I'm trying to figure out if I should be setting up a rotation, or just how to handle them.

They get a game of fatigue (and -1 to their overall) for each loss. Make them recover by making them the back up.

Another helpful tip for some people that may not know or even think about it is to play the crappiest goalie you can have as your backup (unless you're trying to recover your normal starter/backup). Even playing as a backup takes a game off your current contract and if he's not playing in the game, there's no point in having him as the backup (unless as I already said he's fatigued and needs to recover). Plus by playing a crappy goalie as your backup, your team rating will go down a bit and you'll get a better team difference multiplier at the end of each game if you're facing a stacked team.

I started doing this a couple of months ago. At first I thought that putting in a crappy back-up would help me get better match-ups and win more. What I found is that it does give better match-ups, but as soon as you lose a game and have to rest your starter you're in trouble. Over time, your wins and losses will even out to where they should be because by having a weak back-up you will artificially up your win/loss record short-term, but soon enough you'll be levelling up and then start losing games because you're matched up with better players than yourself.

Be warned that using a weak back-up will make your runs of wins and losses very streaky (at first you'll win), which can be discouraging when you're on the big strings of losses (that'll come later).
