The man is skating hard every shift, going into the corners and retrieving pucks, and strong on the backcheck. More importantly to me, he is finishing checks with authority and has even been making some mid ice checks.

I'll take Thornton over Patty for their careers but for today? Jumbo has some work to do to show he should stay on the top PP unit even, and Marleau is playing the most honest game of his career.
Wait until the playoffs start. You'll want Thornton over Marleau.

But once you get the 3rd round you want a healthy Thornton and Marleau together because then Marleau turns into oprah for his linemates screaming YOU GET AN ASSIST AND YOU GET AN ASSIST! Mix that with the god child of the sun Thornton and you have a deadly combo.

Yeah it seems like Thornton and Marleau never operate on the same mojo schedule in the playoffs.

Well ideally if we had secondary scoring it'd be

round 1: Thornton the monster
round 2: Thornton the monster
round 3: Marleau the monster
round 4: Thornton the monster and Marleau the kinda monster I guess

Yeah but Marleau the monster is never enough to advance in the 3rd round, historically speaking.

Marleaus been a first round monster way more times than THornton. Also Marleau has been to the conference finals without Joe but Joe hasn't been there without Marleau..!

A couple seasons there were other guys too in monster mode. Against Calgary the sharks would have been done without a rested Clowe (out the whole season from knee injury) who basically carried the team most of that 7 game series till enough other players woke up. Pavs did most of the damage at the end of a first round and the beginning of the second round against detroit one season also.

That's because the entire team seems to take the 3rd round off each time...

Well, he did in Boston was he was extremely injured (cracked ribs along with a bunch of other things). Marleau was just "bumps and bruises".

He had torn rib cartilage in Boston. Yet he still tried to play. Patty would be donezo if he had that. Or he'd just spend his icetime rolling around silently crying. Cuz Thornton is the best.

Patty was injured on '09, but was still waaaaaay better than Jumbo against Anaheim.

Lets just all agree that both Thorton and Marleau suck and we should trade them both for Jonathan Toews.

After saving the earth from being destroyed by a meteor, you think Toews will come that cheap?

fify
but really it would all be Pavelski. If Jumbo is Zues, Pavs is Hercules and will do all of Zues's dirty work while he basks in glory.

Yeah well Thornton lit Getzlaf up in a show of dominance between two majestic silverback gorillas. Marleau just stood in the corner awkwardly trying not to cry.

People don't mess with hercules because no one wants to deal with the wrath of Zues. So really pavs is allowed to do what he wants because theyre too busy fearing Thornton to worry about pavs.

Pretty apt actually, on that top line Pavelski is the poison you pick.
