Massive respect to Robbie Rogers. Wish he wasn't stepping away from the game though.
Heard about it this morning. I already had a lot of respect for him, but with this announcement, He just raised that to another level. It is a shame that he wants to step away, but I respect his decision. Really hoping that one day he would play for the Galaxy. But good luck to you Mr. Rodgers.
Is there a reason everyone is failing to mention the fact that Rogers is retiring because he's outted himself?
I get that it would be incredibly difficult for him and if he ever does come back I'd like to think it wouldn't be Jackie Robinson difficult to put up with some of the crap he'll hear, but then again maybe I have too much faith in people. He's still got a few more prime years in him, and with Nyarko on the other wing he'd form a terrific tandem on Chicago's wings.
All that said, I wish him nothing but the best out of life and if this is what it takes for him too ultimately be happy then by all means I'm happy for Robbie and wish him nothing but the best out of life.
Although it does make the Oduro trade horrid for Chicago.
Can't blame him for retiring but it's a shame that he has to in this day and age. You'd think that someone's sexuality shouldn't matter when it comes to playing a game. About time it was accepted and people didn't have to hide it incase of retribution from others.
About time he said something. He was really starting to handcuff the team. And if the team isn't doing well, there will be a lot of finger pointing at the captain.
What his timing also tells me is that he's not really interested in playing for the U.S. anymore. Wouldn't shock me if he retires from international football soon. I mean, Landon Donovan missing Azteca? Really? That's signs one, two and three.
