When the trade went down I was really against it. Of course I always felt Fistric was poorly handled by our coaches. Never got much of a chance. I feel Rome is doing decent. Good with his stick, as far as breaking up plays. He has some grit to his game, which is what I loved about Fistric. Still kind of miss him
He can't possibly be worse than our dmen right now.
The coaching staff didn't have confidence in Fistric. Right or wrong they felt better about the rest of our defensemen. Rome, Benn, and Oleksiak would all have to be injured/unavailable before the coaching staff would look to Fistric.
Agreed. I think with "lesser" defenseman, you are looking for chemistry and complimentary skills, which is why "bad" defenseman on one team look "good" on another. Still wasn't opposed to the trade if I am honest. Wouldn't mind having him back now.
It seems like whatever defenseman we want to look good, we put with Daley.
Our D's biggest problem seems to be physical play. Just not enough size back there right now. Robidas, Daley, Goligoski are all small and Larsen plays like he is 5'10".
Regarding goalies: I think that Bachman is still young and inconsistent (25, just coming into goalie age). He is going to have ups and downs. Agreed he didn't look good out there tonight, but that doesn't say much about how he will play next game. Daley was out (our *sigh* best defenseman hands down) and the D looked rattled. Bachman was strong last year. He will be again.
Campbell is not even close to ready and is not an option in my opinion.
