NCAA Free Agents (aka free wallets)

Pardon me if there is already a discussion about this, but I am wondering who are the NCAA free agents that are being highly sought after this year.

Might as well include CHL in here I guess?

Sarault's doing well as an overager, but then again, he's an overager so who knows how his skills translate. Someone who watches him may be better able to tell if he has NHL potential or not.

Somebody has to go after Eric Hartzell. Starting goalie of the #1 team in the nation (Quinnipiac) and a future star.

Dan Dekeyser is a key shutdown defenceman who should get a chance at an NHL spot.

Andrej Sustr is a behemoth of a man, and could be a late blomer. A poor man's Zdeno Chara, possibly.

Ryan Walters has been a snipe-show, probably the most offensively gifted un-drafted player in the NCAA.

As far as my team is concerned, considering how bare-bones the Sens roster is right now, with the number of season-ending injuries we've got going on, I could see the Sens going all-in on a few NCAA guys. Da Costa was an NCAA signing, and he's turning into a keeper.

Keep digging those NCAA mines, Murray.

In case anyone is wondering about college season timelines, the end of the college regular season is around March 9th. Playoffs go until the end of March (players usually become available to sign immediately after their team is eliminated).

Frozen Four is scheduled from April 11th to the 13th, so anytime between March 9th and April 13th, players will be available to sign with NHL teams as soon as their respective team is booted from the playoffs (or after they win the whole. damned. thing.)

I'd love to see the Devils sign an undrafted forward.

Our forward prospect is a bit bare, so adding a forward for nothing always helps.

Hartzell is a very good goalie. Future star, I wouldn't be too sure about that one. That said, I wouldn't mind the Penguins going after him and do the same thing it did with Brad Theissen a few years ago. It needs depth at goaltending.

There's an ongoing sticky thread in the prospects forum about potential undrafted FAs.
