Team lead in PMs - Discuss!

So, interesting stat line that caught my eye today.

Top 5 Penguins by PMs-
Malkin - 26
Engelland - 23
Glass - 19
Cooke - 18
Neal/Despres- 14

Malkin is leading the competition and above our agitators, rookie defenseman, and designated head-puncher.

Malkin's never going to win a Lady Byng at this rate! Get it together Geno!

Meh. He got that 10min misconduct at the end of the Toronto game for yapping at the refs, so the numbers are a little inflated.

Still takes some boneheaded penalties though.

Why can't we have both Malkin and Crosby in beast mode at the same time and finish 1-2 in scoring? Is that too much to ask? One season? Maybe growing up watch Mario and Jagr has spoiled me but there's no reason why they shouldn't both be on top of their games.

Привет, Евгений Владимирович. По чему, ты не играешь хорошо когда Сид играет также с тобой? У тебя есть что нибудь женская скоробь?

Translation from crazy commie speak: Dear Eugene Vladmirovich, why do you play badly when Sid also plays with you? Do you have some sort of feminine affliction?

Malkin & Neal are starting to become a liability taking all of these penalties. Eventually, it'll catch up to them.

Yeah Geno has taken some undisciplined penalties and he needs to be better. Sid took one yesterday as well.

He has a temper, and has trouble letting things go. He's thin skinned.

I don't see how this can be blamed on anyone but himself.

These stats don't mean much.

These do (minor penalties taken / 60min):

http://www.behindthenet.ca/nhl_stati...2+43+44+45+46#

You will see Depres is much more of problem than Malkin. Also note with penalties, it is much more important to judge based on NET penalties. You want players who draw more penalties than they take.

Now is Malkin still a problem considering he draws 1 more penalty / 60min than he takes? (considering this is near the top in net penalties on the team)

With that noted, our two biggest whipping boys are the 2 rookie defenders (Depres and Bortz). Defenders usually take more penalties than they draw, so it is a minor quibble. They should still be working on better discipline and putting themselves in proper position to "take less" as well.

it's a non issue. Malkin will alwas take stupid penalty here or there, so what. It's his personality, he'll take them with pens, with wings, with russian national team it doesn't matter, what he does this year way better is his takeaways his defensive positioning noone as usual seems to notice just recycling same old talking points developed by Rob Rossi, Mike Prisuta and other Malkin haters

Someone acts like geno is benched for all of the bad no look passes....unnecessary penalties...etc. He isn't at all...there is no leash....yet someone still feels the need to mention he is treated poorly here.

No, it's actually like PMS in how it causes emotional affliction, except instead of being "that time of the month" for Geno it's "that time of the game," and rarely leads to bleeding.

He had a bad temper even in the WJC's. Nothing new here.

I think we can overlook his penalties when he is the scoring leader, because he is doing more good than harm with his play. But.. this season is a little different so far.

In Geno's case though, it often lasts for far more than 5 days.

The system doesn't suit him, he doesn't get enough ice time, his left wingers all suck, and there aren't enough Europeans on the roster. I think that about sums it up.
