Truly terrible. The Isles would be gutting their top six for two rentals, a b-prospect, and Gunnarsson.

I'd be all over Grabner. I think on a more complete team, he could really shine.

You're not gonna get a 1st pairing NHL defenseman for a 2nd rounder. Even one with an expiring contract. It just doesn't work that way

Missing the part where the Isles don't want/need prospects and picks? That would not get it done anyway from NYIs perspective.

Unless Niskanen is dealt in a separate deal to land a top six winger, I don't see the point of adding Streit to our blueline. He's been really bad defensively for much of the past two seasons. Do we really need a PP specialist, at the expense of having to sit more physical guys like Despres, Engelland, or Bortuzzo?

And if the Pens are targeting a winger on the Isles, I'd rather see them try and land either Okposo or Bailey. I think both would fit better in the Pens' system than Grabner (who I'm not all that high on, admittedly).

I know Okposo's been hot garbage this year, but I think he's still young enough to be a solid contributor. Him being a RH shot is just an added bonus.

And I'm still high on Bailey. I think if he is played with a bit more talent (ie. him taking the LW spot on the Malkin/Neal line), you'll see him flourish.

i mean veteren D-men on non-playoff teams are pretty much always dealt for picks at the deadline...

and every team needs/wants prospects and picks, especially for 35 year old defensemen

I'll happily take picks for Streit. But not a 2nd rounder. He's worth more than that

I know y'all just signed him but would you trade Carkner for picks, and what picks? A 2nd and a 4th enough?

i offerend a 1st, and 2 prospects for Streit/Grabner.

My offer was right above this. I wasn't talking about the offer for Nashville's 2nd or whatever

only four names up front who are even worth discussing:

for those who want grabner, i just don't see him as being available. even in a game where the isles get whooped, he does positive things. this has been a BIG change compared to last year.

another guy who the isles just aren't trading is moulson. yes, he has warts, but that doesn't mean he is on the move. the isles aren't moving jt's wingman and pal.

nielsen could move despite his all around game and despite his good contract. something eventually has to give with this team and shipping out spare parts here and there won't change the makeup of the team.

okposo could also move despite his decent contract. you have to give to get. and again, i believe something has to change the chemistry and makeup of this team.

all other islander forwards are not really worth discussing. these are the only four who could move that are of consequence and likely only nielsen and okposo could say goodbye, in my opinion.

on d, the isles are so thin it is ridiculous. for that reason, unless the moving of nielsen or okposo brings in a d-man, no one other than impending ufa's streit and visnovsky are likely to move. the only other islanders of consequence on the blue line are hamonic and macdonald. hamonic stays because i don't think he will ever be moved. he has warrior blood in his veins. it's not like i'm all that partial to macdonald, but i just don't see how he gets traded given the isles lack of d depth.

prospects with value who could move if the right piece is coming in return? up front, i think only nino niederreiter could get moved. others with value are strome and nelson and i think the isles are in love with them. i truly think nino has irritated the organization which is why he could be traded. on defence, i believe that donovan could move. i could add dehaan here but his injury likely gets in the way of him being traded. just being drafted, i can't see that reinhart is in play. others are not of major consequence at this point.

player wise then, the following isles with value could move (in my humble opinion):

nielsen, okposo, streit, visnovsky, niederreiter, and donovan.

Grabner has a lot more value than Streit.

Brass tacks: What would you guys give us for Okposo straight up, or what would you give us for him and Niederreiter?

If a trade proposal comes along that improves the team by adding Matt Martin to it, he should not be a deal breaker.

For everyone saying Grabs is not available, he's not doing much good being played on the 4th line for us.

If he's traded Josh Bailey could take his spot on the PK and we wouldnt miss him...

despite the fact that in the last four games his ice time is down, he is still an effective player. he is 3rd on the team with 6 goals and does something positive every game. his game has holes, of course, but i believe you are wrong to say that the isles wouldn't miss his presence. he play is far better than last season's, in my opinion.

Last year Moulson was actually one of your best defensive players, was on the ice for close to fewest goals.
