Is Plekanec on his way to a Selke nomination?

Historically, the NHL has given the Selke to scoring forwards who were also invested with high defensive responsibilities. If Plekanec keeps this PPG pace going, he'll be an obvious choice for at the very least a nomination and under these conditions it wouldnt surprise me if he won it.

If he stays at around PPG then he'll definitely be in contention.

It would be great for him to finally get some real recognition. He already should have been nominated imo.

I wonder how much Plekanec picked up from playing with Jagr in the Czech league? He looks more confident than ever. Definite Selke candidate so far.

There's at least five better defensive forward every year. I've been impressed by him this year, he's set out to accomplish something, I love it.

Now if only we could pry Gionta off his line...

The thing that usually hurts him is his F/O %. Fair or not, it's what usually stands out the most in a bad way compared to the likes of Bergeron and Datsyuk.

Yep.

20 pts in his first 20 games last year.
20 pts in his first 17 games in 2010-11
24 pts in his 24 first games in 2009-10

Even in his terrible 2008-09 season (39 points), he got 10 points in his 12 first games.

That being said, I sure hope he can keep the pace this season!

http://espn.go.com/nhl/statistics/pl...ition/forwards

As you can see, he's currently tied at rank 13 just ahead of Datsyuk and right behind Bergeron for faceoffs. As for differential, i think that so long as he keeps a neutral or positive one, it wont be a point of contention. Everyone knows the stat is skewed.

I know this is a question we ask every year but the last time it was really worth asking was in 09-10 and this year he really does look like he's on a mission. It's also noteworthy that this shortened season can only be a good thing for him. By the time we reach game #48, he'll be at the end of his early season streak! Good on him!

(yes, it does look like he picked up confidence playing back home with Jagr)

The question is how much did Jagr pick up playing with Plekanec?

Pleks is a workhorse! I will be so happy the day people recognize him for this! Reminds me of Koivu but better, and stronger. We are lucky to have him on our top lines!

Pleky for Selke and Marky for Norris would be cool

But seriously, Markov for Masterton?

pierre mcguire has his 7 player profile...but i've always felt that to be champions you should have a candidate for every major nhl award.

Selke....Pleks
Vezina......Price
Calder......gallagher...galchenyuk
Norris....Markov?..Subban in a year or two?

Richard....Perry

He's one of the most complete player in the NHL, super underrated and still some of our fans want him to be traded. It amazes me.

Plekanec is gold.

Pleks is not the sexy pick so he'll really have to out shine the competition in order to get serious consideration.
It's too bad but I wish him the best all the same

I don't necessarily agree. I think the main issue is that a lot of those ''better'' forwards benefit from not having to play with guys like Darche or Staubitz. They get to play with solid linemates.
I mean, Datsyuk, Toews, Bergeron, Richards, Kesler, they don't play with crappy scrapers. Plekanec always had too, and never complained might I add.

So I don't think all those guys always played better than Plek in their 2 way role.
Not saying I wouldn't take them over Plek either, but I think Plek's lines always held him back. Like it would to most of those guys.

It hasn't always been that bad for him, he did play with Kovalev and Kostitsyn.
