Gagner finally looks to have broken out, why would the Oil trade him now without getting another center back? Value is certainly there though, Gardiner and Schultz reunion would be awesome. I doubt that Leaf fans even think about this for two seconds, ha ha.

Realistically, Tyler Bozak is going nowhere. The thought of trading him for a guy like Sam Gagner is completely ridiculous. The thought of giving up Jake Gardiner for a 2nd to make that swap, is plain insanity.
Reality is -- Sam Gagner and Tyler Bozak are similar players in overall calibre. Bozak is better defensively and on the draw, Gagner probably has a slight edge offensively. But, Bozak's got proven chemistry with Kessel, and is in a strong position to resign with the Leafs. He likely wouldn't be for any other team.
It's generally a good idea to consider the other teams needs when making trade proposals. We have 4 guys that are number 2 or 3 centers (one in the minors) so why would we aquire another one ? The only players we would want from the Oilers are guys you would refuse to part with in my opinion.
A trade that might make more sense would be one of our surplus D and a defensive prospect for Pajarvi.
Not saying the Leafs would do this deal but Bozak has more trade value than Gagner? Only on HF is that true
Gagner's a far superior offensive player with more offensive upside. Maybe Bozak has the edge on the dot and defensively but I'll take the offense any day over the HF intangibles.
The ultimate dealbreaker is that the Oilers have Gagner's rights after the year while Bozak is a UFA. Gagner has more trade value than Bozak and it's not really close although the difference between Gardiner and a 2nd is even more significant.
Anyone want to tell me why Toronto would want to trade a centerman who has chemistry with Kessel, wins draws, and plays better defensively for a smaller offensive minded centerman? We have Kadri(who's also better defensively and much more physical), and no use for Gagner at all.
Maybe for some other teams Gagner has more value, but not the Leafs.
