What do the Oilers need to add to get a Center back (Boyle)
No interest in Whitney. Not even for a pick, let alone a player like Boyle.

Absolutely not. Kreider's not being moved for help on the blue-line.

Not even for Markov and a fourth. I mean the guy would turn your powerplay around in a flash and pretty much deliver you lord stanley on a platter.

Me too. I wouldn't trade Diaz for a forward who doesn't come close in production. We have to add a 3rd as well? lol.

So what you are saying is you have never seen Kreider play or know anything about him? Got it.

To say we don't need someone who can rip one-timers from the point on the powerplay is ridiculous. Back when we traded for McCabe/Ozolinsh etc we were not 1 or 2 pieces away from a true cup run. Not 1 D-man on our team is capable of really bombing 1-timers from the blue line. I agree McDonagh should get more time on the PP but he is still not that type of d-man. When is the last time you've seen a rangers D-Man score a goal like Carlson scored against Hank on Sunday? Granted that wasn't the powerplay but thats not the strength of our D-men. If you don't think that type of player opens up more space on the PP then you don't know what your talking about. As is teams know no one is ripping shots from the point so they don't really have to pressure us there. Souray/Franson/etc would change that.

Franson has 9 points in 13 games and is a +10. That ship has sailed.

Agreed... Habs are in no position to trade a guy who is playing solid minutes and contributing like Diaz is for a prospect. It doesn't matter that it's Kreider or anybody else in the prospect category, it's nothing against Kreider, and no lack of awareness of who Kreider is and what he is expected to turn into. He's great. But it's not certain that he could step in and make the Habs better. More likely, losing Diaz would make the Habs worse. Short term does matter for the Habs atm.

But moving off the subject of Diaz, there is always Weber. Who last season was arguably as good as Diaz (at times, anyway). PP is his bread and butter. But he's a dice roll. I'd grant him a change of scenery at the cost of a 2nd round pick (or equivalent prospect or possibly other equivalent player asset). I think that's a slightly higher price than most HFBoards fans would be willing to pay, however, so not expect to find a taker. Which is ok. Weber may still come in handy for the Habs this year.

There is a contradiction there, you want the Rangers to roll dice with a 2nd rounder for a guy who at best is a #6 on their D and is currently #8 on the habs depth chart?
Makes no sense.
Weber for a 6th is as high as I would go. Otherwise you can keep him as a #8, and he can enjoy the games from the bench.

No, I don't care either way if the Rangers wanted to roll the dice or not. Just saying that Habs have a potentially available guy who is considered something of a potential PP specialist, and I'd ask for a 2nd rounder for him. I'm not asking the Rangers to do anything.

Yeah, that's perfectly fine. Just as I would expect, in fact, and I would be entirely comfortable and content with keeping Weber. He watches from the pressbox, until somebody gets hurt, and there is more value in defensive depth than in 6th round picks, for sure, for any team.

Which lines does Boyle usually go up against? Is he your shutdown centre?

Only way we'd have room for him is if he can replace Grabo (he'd be cheaper and then we'd ship Grabo out for someone else)

I've seen Lubo and Streit thrown around a bit in here. No way the Isles trade them to the Rangers.

Bill Guerin was rumored to have been traded to the Rangers about 5 years ago. He ended up going to Pitt. The teams discuss trades, especially at the deadline when the Isles are clearly selling. They don't care where the 2nd rounder comes from, just that they get the best package.

Weber is too inconsistent. But maybe a change of scenery could help him. 6th rd pick at best.
Pass on Franson, his skating is iffy, Torts would staple him to the bench.
Pass on Kaberle, MAB, Leopold and Brennan. They shoot left.
This is reminder that the rangers are looking for a RD (Maybe the OP can modify the title).
A couple of other interesting names came up:
Jutin Braun from the Sharks.
Postma from the Jets.
As to Weber, some habs fans were fine with the 6th rd pick, some were not, so we'll just say he is out, but that's the offer on the table.

Yeah, I don't understand it myself. I thought the offer of Diaz and a third was borderline insulting to Ranger fans. I guess I should have more respect for our players.
