The biggest question is what are the defensive pairing going to be? I would like to see this.
Visnovsky-Hamonic
Streit-Amac

Finley-Hickey is just turrible though. Should be interesting to see the lines tonight. Like I said before Matt Donovan should be called up, he's 23 years old, how long does he have to wait?

Also, Donovan can't really replace Strait, the Isles need a better defensive presence. Donovan is still a work in progress in his own zone (not saying he is terrible, but it certainly isn't his strength). We don't need a pp qb with Vis and Streit.

How long until Carkner is back?

My guess is he won't be available until the playoffs (if we make it) and even then probably not until the end of round 1 or even beginning of round 2.

I asked Staple last week about Strait and he said he was still on crutches so i would assume hes not coming back this season

Let him sit till September/October. No need to bring him back now.

He's off crutches now but I still think we won't see him unless we are in the playoffs and even then he's going to have to shake off the rust.

UPDATE:

Quote:
@StapeNewsday: #Isles D Brian Strait (ankle) skated today on his own, after team practice. First time on ice since Feb. 18 injury.
Doesn't sound like he's close to returning but its a good sign.

Teams would have given a second rounder for Strait at the deadline, a third at the very least with what he showed before he got hurt...here is your depth defenseman returning...

If he could make it back for the playoffs, that would be huge. He along with any potential kids are our trade deadline acquisitions.

Looks like he's on schedule. They said 6 to 8 weeks. It would be nice if he got a couple games in before the playoffs.

They are!

But seriously, Strait was playing great for the Isles before he went down. His return for playoff hockey would help this team by leaps and bounds.

Strait was just solid with no frills. He ate up minutes effectively, he could give the blue line a definite lift by evening out minutes and keeping the corps fresher. Our whole unit is like a bend or don't break type, he could help solidify it.

We have to temper our excitement. He hasn't played in 7 weeks. It will still take him some time to get in game shape but just the fact that he's skating again is promising. His skating was his biggest asset and that might not be up to speed for awhile..

It takes a while. When I had broken ankles, the calf muscle atrophies greatly because of being in a cast for 5 weeks and no usage.
