Is he actually 5'9 or is that a bump of a few inches?

Not exactly sure, but if I had to guess, 5-9 looks reasonable. I wouldn't say anything taller than 5-9 though.

Mentioned this a couple times in this thread, but he was officially measured by NHL Central Scouting on January 14th as part of the Top Prospects Game as being 5'8.25"

Thanks for the info, definitely small by NHL standards but not tiny.

I think the guy will make it. He's got a very Skinner-like elusiveness around the net and has displayed elite puck skills and vision. I'm a bit concerned that his skating style may not transfer well to the NHL, but I think he'll be ok. I expect a similar development path to that of Tyler Ennis.

I think Ennis is the better skater but Petan has puck skills, vision and hockey smarts that are very elite.

Will be a steal if he slips out of the 1st round IMO.

I think time will prove he was a steal outside the top 15... Just my opinion, but I think he has so much raw skill / IQ. Pure talent.

I'd like to see Habs take Petan late first round. Recently I compared his stats to current Hab Gallagher. From each's draft year of course. Given both are relatively same size, played in WHL, within 3 years of each other. Petan offensive abilities blows past Gallagher. He should be elite goal scorer in NHL as Gallagher is decent offense in NHL. Gallagher is more feisty, but given their size I am not sure that is a negative or positive thing.

Does the +60 make anyone wonder if he is having a little bit too easy of a time to really judge him?

You want the Habs to have yet another undersized forward? Really?

No. I dont think that really enters into it. There is no doubt the WC houses the extreme crap of the WHL as far as poor teams go, but his skills were fairly evident at the top prospects game. He wasnt playing against cream puffs there. He is a dynamic offensive player of that there is no doubt. I like him a lot more than the recent vintage of shorties ie Grimaldi etc...

Will his skills translate at the NHL level. That is the 64k question. I think they probably will, but Im just Joe fan.

We took our time as we wanted more live viewings before we moved him from just outside our top 30. He made the jump in our Feb rankings at HockeyProspect.com.

I spoke about him a little bit on the radio over the weekend. one player I compared him to in previous rankings for us was Tyler Ennis. We had Ennis at number 21 in his draft year. We now have Petan at 16 overall.

He was the topic of conversation in the scout room at a game i was at last week. As expected, most of the conversation centred around his size.

Would you pass on another Giroux again because of his size? Really?

A little Petan reading for those that want to hear a little bit of what the kid has to say:

Quote:
Not that Petan – the reigning Future Considerations draft eligible Forward of the Month – feels overshadowed by Jones to begin with.

“He just helps me and he’s not stealing the spotlight,” said Petan, who has 41 goals on the year.

It’s tough to feel overshadowed when second in Major Junior in scoring. Petan’s point totals, already nearly three times the production he had in his rookie season in the Western Hockey League, is something even the Delta, BC product couldn’t have imagined coming into his draft year.

“I wasn’t really expecting it,” the five-foot-nine, 166-pound centre said. “I wasn’t thinking about it too much but I mean, it’s always nice to be there but I never really thought about it.”

Very impressive in Victoria yesterday while going pointless (was causing havoc in the crease on big Seth's goal though).

Small and skill, would go well with Baertchi and Gaudreau.

He will get drafted 22nd overall and teams will regret not drafting him in the top 5

Could Petan be goal scoring upgrade, but similar to Montreal's Gallagher? Both small, from the west, both kind of spunky.

Not even... Petan wouldn't even cross their minds if they have a top 10 let alone top 5 pick in this year's draft

At the end of the 1st round/beginning of 2nd if you had an opportunity to draft Giroux's you would pass? I wouldn't, you turn that into a tradeable asset because that's a lot better of an asset than 95%+ of players picked at that spot.

Bold, but if one WHL prospect was going to be 'that guy' this year, it could very well be Petan.
