You know what's common to all those players?

None of those are ever going to be considered, and never were core players. And let's face it, complementary players are bound to change teams more often than not. None of those players you listed are pieces that are particularly hard to replace on a team, each summer the UFA market is filled with those.

And guess what; here's something else that is common to all of these players;

None of those have ever won anything. It's no coincidence the teams giving them important roles are getting nowhere.

I have to say I would still prefer him over Armstrong.

Of course you would

Good thing. Now I can stop being afraid of him sucking his way up to another chance with the Habs. This guy overrated himself big time.

Cool, maybe he's gonna find himself a hockey related job. Probably at RDS.

Sucks for him but I think he should be offered a job on RDS and he would do an excellent job along with Marc Denis

I just hope he doesn't join the clowns of l'antichambre

Dude should have taken the two way contract when he was offered one. Could have worked his way into the lineup over struggling 4th liners like Armstrong,. His loss.

Too old, slow and not enough puck talent to make up for it. Good guy, though. Wish him all the best.

Oh great, now we'll be stuck listening to him on RDS.

Good riddance. Never hated Darche that much but Martin made me hate him using him on the PP/giving him #1 minutes.

Makes wonder had he taken that 2 way contract offered....maybe he could of worked his way back to an opportunity. Hate him or love him you cant deny that he made it even if it was late in his career. Now i suppose he will be working at Rds.

Hard to feel sorry for him after he rejected the 2-way offer, guy was lucky that our team was so bad the last couple of years that he actually got to be a regular player. Good luck to him on whatever he plans on doing but I'm glad we won't have to see him play for us again.

I understand the hate for the guy because of the way Martin (over)used him, but as a 4th liner/PK guy, he beats the crap out of Armstrong.

People are surprised he rejected a two-way offer but he said many times that for him his stint with the AHL was over. Darche was a guy that stayed many years in AHL and played with Tampa for short time(I think) but his years with the Habs was really the first time he became a true NHLer, finally he had made it. And he considered retiring before joining the Habs.

I think Darche was a true grinder/defensive guy in the sense of the word, the way that they don't make it anymore. These days, to play the fouth line, you have to be tough and have to drop the gloves from time to time. But once upon a time in this league there were defensive forwards that were hired mostly for that role, to play defensive hockey and work hard. I guess you could put Jeff Halpern in that role too.

Too bad for him he is a good guy.

I would have take him over Nokelainen. Nokelainen wasnt that bad of a signing for a 4th line center/13th forward.

Now because Galchenyuk made the team we have plenty of center.

Desharnais Plekanec Eller Galchenyuk White (Prust)

Darche could be a 14th forward/PP specialist (public, press specialist)

I know he wasnt the best player but the guy made the NHL
I think he deserves our respect for all the sacrifices he did to get there.

Why wont he go to Europe like Metro did? The guy was front and center in CBA negotiations, maybe Sid and Ovie and company will cut him a cheque for all his fine efforts. The reality for Darche is to many younger players available that can do the same job he did. If jacques Martin ever gets another NHL job....

When did Darche "grind"? Jeff Halpern is a great veteran centre that's why someone signs him every year.

Good to see so many posters trashing a guy who bled blue-white and red, who loved playing in Mtl and was always available to the media and the fans.

The same fans who loved Komisarek and cried the day he signed with TO and felt betrayed.

And btw, why didn't we keep up his own thread. I'm sorry but Darche was a great ambassador to the habs... ffs, we keep irrelevant OT threads alive, but no, Darche retiring doesn't deserve it's own thread for a few days ???

Darche was used too much by Martin, but in what way is it Darche's fault... he always gave his 100% on the ice, ALWAYS... and that is the definition of a true professional.

He must have a real job already on the table. Or feel like he doesn't want to mess up his family anymore. Otherwise, why not go to Europe. He could still have some fun and see some new things on a decent payday overseas.

He was respectable for us, in our time of need. The hate is really not justified.

Never said he wasn't a nice guy. There are lots of nice people from the city. Good for them. I don't want them on the Habs fourth line though. Ryan White is the 13th forward and adds way more than Darche (say what you will about his penalties lately).

Darche on the fourth line at his age would drag the entire team speed and energy down. You're going to play him over Moen? White? Who? Armstrong is Therrien's boy and way better than Darche anyways, will punch a Bruin or Flyer in the face if they're out of line. Fourth line is aggressive and physical these days and the team is better for it.

One is younger, right handed and according to NHL.com throws an average of a hit a game compared to the other's .75 hits per game.
