I'll take the guy who is playing at an elite level since he arrived.
Anderson is probably the better fit for Ottawa since they are ready to compete at a higher level then the Avs. The Avs need time and Varlamov is a better option for them.

Fair enough.

I take issue with your massive discrepancy in talent though.

I think Varlamov in his prime is going to be a beast. His speed and reflexes are freakishly good.

The thing is though, just because he plays a more wild and crazy style doesn't make him more talented then Andy. Like I said, different styles are hard to compare. Andy plays a Luongo style where as Varlamov is more similar to a Thomas style. Relying on his reflexes and agility. Andy doesn't often get in positions where he has to flail around like Varly does. It's all playing style.

From Freedman:

11. Do you remember when Murray took heat for signing goaltender Craig Anderson to a four-year, $12.75-million extension? Now that contract looks beautiful. I joked with him last week that some GMs said he could get half a team for Anderson. Murray laughed and said, "Tell those guys to call me." If he ever seriously decided to do it, Ottawa would get a lot in return.
http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/opin...nd-safety.html

Easily the best hockey column out there, well worth a read. Usually something or other on the Sens, too.

Also, I don't think this is indicative of an Anderson deal, I assume Murray see's the value in him just as much as most other GMs... just thought it was interesting that the goalie market is booming IF there is an asset available that teams really want.

I get your point, but Varly's positioning isn't all that bad. Unfortunately he is stuck behind a defense core almost entirely composed of third pair defenseman, with the only exception being Johnson.

I wasn't very happy about the Varly trade when it went down, but if you watch him and see the talent he has, you would see that he has the potential to be something very special. I would easily re-do that trade again without hesitation.

I was very excited about Pascal Leclaire. (another athletic goalie)

Pierre McGuire thought he would turn the franchise around.

Until he does it, it's all just conjecture.

I'm not trying to dump on your trade, but with goalies, you just never know.

Good luck with your guy.

I actually do watch tons of Avs games. My best friends is a giant Avs fan. I'm a huge Varly fan, don't get me wrong. I just feel like you're selling Andy's skills and talent short. He makes hard saves look like flutter pucks through no screen. It's insane how easy he makes everything look. Well, everything besides puck handling.

And it's not like the Sens D is much better then the Avs. Without Karlsson we have:
Methot (really our only true top 4 Dman)
Gonchar (who is really meh. Not good defensively)
Phillips (not what he used to be)
Lundin (Brian Lee)
Patrick Wiercioch (Rookie)
Eric Gryba (Rookie)
Andre Benoit (Rookie)

With Andy it's the rebound control.

I find that this is the quality of a great goalie.

It's what is so frustrating about Lundqvist.

Bishop is a great puck stopper but his rebound control may not ever be good enough for him to be a #1.

I think Varly will be a good goalie. Consistently one of the Avs better players. That's perhaps not saying much given the team currently in front of him. Nevertheless, he is not bad at all especially for someone so young.

Of course, I take Anderson now all day ever day. However, Anderson now for the Sens and Anderson then on the Avs are two different things.

CB makes a good point in that the Avs were entering a full on rebuild mode with a very young core. Ottawa, by contrast, went with a decidedly more moderate rebuild with a more or less established core. If I understand him, he's saying that timing/contract issues won out over Anderson's obvious talent. I can understand that.

Anderson is in some pretty rarefied air right now and is looking a lot more consistent than he's ever been.

With Varly's talent, I personally think that things could come together like that for him eventually. Of course, Anderson is the better goalie as of today and there's no guaruntee Varlamov reaches that level.

I consider Anderson an average starter, I'm sure some people here will disagree, but I fully expect Varlamov to turn into an elite goalie once the Avs turn the corner on the rebuild.

The Avs current defense lineup is Hejda, Barrie (rookie), O'byrne, O'Brien, Hunwick, Elliott (rookie), and Zanon. I wouldn't consider any of these players good top 4 defenseman. Elliott and Barrie are on their way, but are rookies and make mistakes.

Anyways, with the Anderson/Varlamov pissing match aside I came here because I seen Ottawa may have inquired about O'Reilly and was wondering what they might part with.

Oh you have no idea. I suspect he is who is behind O'Reilly's rather high, bordering on insane contract demands.

Personally I'd give up Silfverberg and a 3rd or something like that.

I'd do Silf, Greening + 2nd. But I'd also want to sit on that one for 10 or so games.

Doesn't O'Reilly have 10 siblings or something outrageous?

If the Avalanches wants at least Del Zotto for O'Reilly, we'll have to offer a ton. At least Zibanejad+Wiercioch
