1.) C-Bus -- D Seth Jones
2.) Caps -- C Nate McKinnon
3.) Jets -- W Jonathan Drouin
4.) Avs -- W Nichushkin
5.) Panthers -- C Lindholm
6.) C-Bus (via LA) -- C Barkov
7.) Sabres -- C Monahan

Quote:
He's slipping but could end up being a player like Sean Couturier whose draft stock slipped and then ended up playing in the NHL immediately.

"He's dropping because he's on a team that is awful," said a Western Conference scouting director. "So the people that say he's dropping, it's a little short-sighted."

He's been compared to Jonathan Toews, a kind of player the Sabres would be thrilled to get at No. 7.

I'd do backflips if we got Monahan in this coming draft. Kid's gonna be a good hockey player and quite frankly should be a top 5 pick.

If you go by win%, we'd be drafting 4th or 5th. We're tied with Philly as the fourth-worst team.

Oh man. I would be ecstatic to get Monahan. Count me as someone who thinks he'll be in the NHL next year. Skating could use a bit of work I think, but he plays a fantastic two-way game and has great hockey IQ. Future Toews-lite.

I really like Monahan's game and will actually have a shot at someone like him, we just aren't bad enough to finish in the top 5 unfortunately and we all know how our luck is here in Buffalo in regards to winning the lottery!

Plus he has a pretty sweet last name , right Matty???

(For those that don't know, is the answer jesus and I are brothers and we are Monahan's as well)

Ha that's half the reason I'd love the sabres to draft him. Could have my own last name on a sabres jersey. The other half being he's a fantastic hockey player, the Couturier comparision is actually a pretty good one.

I...uh......had no idea. Blew my mind right there.

Also I would be doing backflips if we landed Monahan. I've been a supporter of his since day one. Love this kids game.

If we dont move any of G-E-H...why draft another Center?

i understand taking him if there is a big difference in talent because he fell down...

I think the first choice would be taking a winger with size and skill.

Centers can always become wingers and natural centers are often better players. Nevermind that we're far from the point where we can say we couldn't stand to upgrade one of those guys, right now we can't even say we won't need to upgrade all of them. Ennis is still far from proven as a center, as well.

So in short, you pick the best player. If he's a center that should hardly be seen as a negative, if anything it's a positive for many reasons.

If the Kings win tonight, we'd be in position to pick 4th if the draft was tomorrow. I'm starting to think this team may have a legitimate chance at a top 5 pick.

Move Ennis back to left wing. I think Monahan could be the best two-way player of the bunch (based on my limited viewing).

Based on win% at this moment, we'd draft 3rd. Florida has a better win% than us. CBJ would be 1st, WSH would be 2nd.

I think Washington has a better chance of moving up the standings than Buffalo does, though. I've got my fingers crossed for MacKinnon.

Seth Jones IMO.

We have young centers, and Jones is a stud already. Though you really can't go wrong with any of the top centers in this year's draft.

Absolutely. Or pick the one of the four that needs a bit of wing time, and play him there until he's ready. Still likely to be Ennis.

No one wants Barkov?

Barkov is exclusively a winger, right?

If he's BPA, then I'd have no problem with it...we do need more talent on the wings. But unless he is clearly better than the available centers/D, then I'd go for one of those positions first. If talent is equal (or close to it), choose the more important position IMO.

If were going to tank properly... I want some of the ELITE talent in this draft. The three super elite players in this draft are Mackinnon, Drouin, and Jones. If we come away with any of those 3, this year will be a success. (If Ruff ends up being fired) Basically you get your pick between a Franchise D, Winger, or Center within the first 3 picks. We could use any of the 3 since we have none of those.

Who are some players you guys like that would be available in the late first round? I have a feeling Darcy will end up acquiring a 1st from a cup contender at the deadline if we are out of it by then.

I think I would still take Monahan at 3 over the likes of Drouin and Barkov. I just love his two-way game.

I wouldn't be opposed to picking a goalie like Zach Fucale there. Also nabbing or trading up for Ryan Hartman or Morgan Klimchuck in the late first might be a smart idea, instead of just waiting and hoping they fall to the 2nd round.

Agree re: Monahan. Great hockey sense there. His offensive stats this season have been hurt by playing for a bad team, but he's very talented. I think he's more NHL-ready than anyone not named MacKinnon in this draft class (yes, even Drouin and Jones). Barkov's two-way game is good too though, and he's got size to boot.
