Icing discussion

I personally feel we need to use the icing rule that the NCAA uses. I tried searching and didn't not find a thread for this issue. But it's something that needs to be discussed. I know it's a big topic in the main forum, but would like it to be discussed amongst duck fans.

Btw if the mods need to merge that's fine. But this icing rule needs to be changed in my eyes.

What is the NCAA icing rule? IIFH-style no-touch icing? We have that over here. I definitely prefer touch icing.

I personally hope they keep touch icing, but I havent looked into how often injuries actually occur from it. I think its a part of the game that needs to be kept and hybrid icing wouldnt really help much.

I personally hate automated icing. It's anticlimactic to the max in hockey. Everyone just quits trying because there's nothing anyone can do.

Yah I wouldn't mind seeing hybrid. I just think these icings are a bit unsafe. And it's a big topic to talk about to say the least.

Hybrid icing is a mixture of touch and no-touch icing. It gives a linesman the discretion to blow his whistle and stop the play if he believes a defending player will reach the puck first. If the linesman believes the attacking player has a chance to reach the puck first, he lets the race to the puck play out. The linesman always will side with the defending player and will blow his whistle if he feels the race is a tie by the time the players reach the faceoff dots.

I'm not sure which is which but I would prefer to see the one where they race to the face off circle and then the whistle is either blown or not depending upon who wins the race.

Watching guys make kamikaze runs into the board adds nothing to the game other than an occasional serious injury. Games are not won or lost because one team is better at "not getting called for icing" than another. It isn't a skill being eliminated from the game.

That would be a hybrid icing that I would like to see. There's so many injuries along the boards as is. Something needs to be done. Give the linesman more responsibility for calling icing. More players would appreciate it I assume.

I know in my men's silver league at Anaheim Ice it's scary going full force for a icing puck. Even though ITS non contact. It's still scary cause its so competitive. Can't imagine at the NHL level

Yah no touch Icing in NCAA vipers. I know hockey is a physical sport. But have you played hockey before? It's very scary along the boards when two people are racing for a puck. Even if its no contact. Having contact? Unreal we need to limit injuries from icing.

If anyone has statistics of suspensions or injuries from the icing rule please post them. I would love to see the results.

I vote no on hybrid icing. No reason to have another aspect of the game that the refs can **** up.

How about we just make the NHL no contact. It's less scary.

And they will screw it up. In the AHL the refs were blowing the whistle regardless of who outran who. It wound up being 'no touch' icing with the facade of the hybrid rules.

How about me and you both go for an icing puck? Hopefully you have insurance cause half the men in my league don't have enough to pay for the injury. The icing rule needs to be changed.

Even if hybrid would limit injuries?

If you're playing in a rec league, it's already automatic icing.

The number of injuries caused by icing is fairly negligible.

And I'm not really sure why you'd find the boards scary.

Nobody said that. And personally I happen to be one who does not want to see fighting taken out of the game. But you honestly think racing for the puck over an icing call is an integral part of the game?

It's Rec, but since its silver level the refs let It play on Soj it's one of the highest divisions at Anaheim Ice. Our league uses the NHL rules in most cases.

Silver is mid level at AI. Intermediate and Elite are the highest divisions, and from experience I can tell you they still call automatic icing. The exceptions to this are when it's late and the refs just want to go home, so they let it slide if it's not too blatant.

It's chippy. And I'm not a pro I don't get paid for anything. If I'm racing for a puck in a NO contact league for a icing puck we need to enhance a hybrid scenario. People get flustered I still get boarded or
Checked in this level of hockey. Totally support the hybrid icing

I really don't see what this has to do with the NHL. Every rec league I've ever played in did automatic icing, and they do it specifically because most players don't have the kind of control necessary to not get hurt in those icing situations.

This is all side note Soj. The refs let us play with icing rules indicated by NHL standards. We pay for it apparently :faceplam: I just don't understand the icing rule without limitations being other leagues use Hybrid non hybrid what ever and what have you. Shanny get your act together and start promoting a safer sport for my players. It's just that simple
