Alfredsson Rumour/Speculation

Alfredsson is Bruins trade target as per Insider Trading (TSN).

They mention the connection to former teammate Chara and Chiarelli.

Thoughts? Does he still have enough left in the tank? Could this be the vet like Recchi that the Bruins need to make another run?

Edit: Only Link I could Find

http://espn.go.com/blog/nhl/post/_/i...lfredsson-away

One team that I believe will show serious interest in Alfredsson, if and when the time is right, is the powerhouse Boston Bruins. With the trade of Tim Thomas’ contract, the B’s have lots of cap room to add pieces before the April 3 trade deadline.

The connections, of course, are obvious: GM Peter Chiarelli used to work in Ottawa’s front office and B’s captain Zdeno Chara is a former teammate of Alfredsson's. If there’s one team that could entice Alfredsson, I’m not sure there’s a better fit than Boston.

I assume Chiarelli's Ottawa connection is also key. So does the report declare sources, or is it entirely fueled by circumstance? There are always a slew of those during a season. If there's actually something to it, then veddy, veddy interesting indeed.

I'd love to get Alfredsson. I'd be shocked if Ottawa traded their captain. Especially to a division rival. But since their season is basically over without Spezza and Karlsson, it might make sense to give him a chance to win and get some assets for the future.

Saw the report as well, I think it was more if an IF Alfie were available the Bruins make the most sense given our cap space and the obvious connections.

Wow, that would be something.....shades of Ray Bourque redux?

I still remember him scoring twice on one-timer slapshots in a game against us last year.....just deadly shots.

I would be happy to see him as a Bruin.

There are 2 IF's here. Will the Sens be out of the playoff picture, and would Alfie want to come to Boston? I think the answer to the first question is maybe, and answer to second question is yes.

We will see.

Hell yeah, I'd take him. Not sure he'd want to leave Ottawa (or sure if he even has a say) or if they'd want to trade the face of their franchise. The Bruins did it so it would seem fair...

Definitely don't want all of this unused cap space after the trade deadline.

Wow. That'd be great!

He does sound like more of a Chia style move than per say Iginla. He certainly brings everything needed to be a Bruin these days. You could do almost anything with'em...slide'em right in with Pevs and Kelly if you want...That line is instantly real dealed...wow...*hyper*...Its good to dream...

Yeah, he'd certainly bring that Rex effect to the team too.

I guess the big questions are would the Sens really do it and for what? Hope Chia is working on it.

...Oh, and upgrade Ference while you're at it.

Would be awesome depending on the price. Probably a slim chance he leaves Ottawa, but could push us over the top.

Alfie and Kelly played together for quite awhile on the same line so it could be worth it. What will it cost us tho?

Wow, his name hadn't really entered my head as a possible trade target b/c I thought the Sens might be weary of trading their "face of the franchise" to a division rival, especially one who is such a strong cup contender. How would Sens fans react if Alfie helps lead Boston to another title? But maybe the Sens would be happy to get the best deal possible for him, & don't care too much where they trade him to. I also have to think that they will try & do right by Alfie and within reason let have a say as to where he lands. You would have to think the Bs would be an attractive place for veteran players.

I would love to see him in the black & gold...he is still a hell of a player.

They'd be bringing Alfie in to play on the 3rd line so Pevs makes no sense. Would probably cost us Spooner or Koko at least.

Guessing it would look something like: High-end prospect, mid-level prospect/2-3rd rnd pick

so who's the roster player who goes?

Another bonus to having him on the team is that it just may be the catalyst needed to finally get the uncrowned king of the SEL to come on over.

don't like him, he seems to be the antithesis of "Bruin"

How so? He's a team guy and a leader, and though he may not be physically tough, he competes his arse off...and he can score...we need guys who can score.

Pretty sure the SEL playoffs end right when the NHL's begin. A third line of
Soderberg - Kelly - Alfredsson

reputation of a cheap shot artist that keeps his gloves cemented on after starting a battle, etc...

I wasn't aware of that reputation, and even so, he improves your team day one. Most importantly, he gives you another guy who can finish. That third line goes from "Meh" to instantly dangerous. I would take that rep no problem...there are plenty of guys on this team that will drop their gloves for him if it means another cup.

I'd love to see him on the b's going into the playoffs but at the same time I don't want to see a top pick get dealt. He's a true rental. It will be interesting to see if he is moved. I'd imagine if he is it will be to somewhere he picks, I can't see ott sending him somewhere he does not want to end up.

We obviously have different views on this player. I have always thought he was one of the more well-respected guys in the league, but I could be wrong. I just hope they improve this team in some way. It doesn't have to be Alfie, but I personally wouldn't mind if it was, but each to his own.
