Personally I've said since last year we need a true HOCKEY GUY above Regier to oversee things. Black is not a hockey guy. Sawyer is not a hockey guy. If we had one of those guys there would be NO issue with this mess. NO true hockey guy would "rely on people around the league" when it comes to keeping or not keeping a head coach or GM.
That's a GM.

Ted Black has stated that they don't believe in that position. The buck stops at the GM in regards to the hockey department. Anyone above Darcy that has final say, would actually be the GM.

Ted Black or Terry Pegula.

It's a very simple org chart.

Code:
Pegula
    |
Black-----------
  | |
Hockey Dept Business Dept

Why? "General Manager" makes sense to have all final HOCKEY decisions.

Sorry, just don't think you should have 2 clueless "hockey" guys deciding who to hire and fire when it comes to GM etc.

Other sports do it and usually if the right guy is hired, it works pretty well.

So you don't trust Terry and Teddy to hire a GM, but you will trust them to hire a "hockey guy" above the GM?

That doesn't add up at all to me.

The man made his fortune on fracking for goodness sake. You would think that someone with that background had some ruthlessness, but it seems that he is running the most cozy sports franchise in the world. It's very odd.

I feel more confident in bringing in a veteran guy around the league to help out than I do for 2 business guys to decide on a GM themselves. The dude doesn't have to have final say on the roster, but a true hockey guy who can run the hockey side of things would be nice.

Maybe its a position that doesn't normally exist in the NHL but Pegula said the amount of $ for scouting ETtc was unlimited. Why not bring in a Scotty Bowman type to help out? Right now they are just following Regiers lead to nowhere.

Not every team does it and not in every sport. Most teams have a president above their GM but it doesn't mean they're an expert at the sport but serve an advisory role to the owners. The Sabres historically haven't had that buffer ever be a 'hockey' man

I said that last night. How many toes did he have to step on to get his billions? To make it seem like its all about making people feel comfortable so they can succeed in their jobs is just... strange. I don't get it.

You don't have to get it. He built a company from scratch into a company bringing in billions and managed to sell off his share at probably an excellent time, considering the response to fracking now, for over $4B.

Whatever he did, worked. Whatever you did... well you didn't.

I'm not saying every team everywhere else has it.

All I'm saying is I think it could be used here.

Don't agree? No big deal, but I'm not changing my stance. 1st sign they were wrong was extending Regier for 5 years after accomplishing little to nothing in the past couple of years.

That's great. He made a **** ton of money in a very controversial way.

I'm just saying its strange he ran such a controversial operation with no care whatsoever and now its all about how much we all should love everyone and everything about our team.

He stepped on toes in fracking and its time he steps on toes now. If he doesn't want to do it? Then hire someone to do it for you.

Which can be ended at any time. This is a recording.

Stop mentioning your broken record. You know the truth but you keep mentioning it like it means anything significant. Don't be bullheaded, you're better than that.

Because it doesn't have to be a dictatorship where 1 freaking guy runs everything.

If one of those guys were hired last year or even the year before (like I previously said back then), then perhaps he'd have an idea of how to fix this mess.

Conjecture. You have no clue if he did or didn't have an "iron fist" and ruled ruthlessly to get his billions. You know this, yet you still type that brainless drivel. You also don't have a clue about what Pegula and black are talking about everyday. You know you don't yet you repeat this little fantasy of yours like it has merit. You know this, yet you type this brainless drivel.

There is a possibility, that maybe, just maybe, Pegula and Black want to do any changes in the summer. It is in fact possible... Right? Don't be ignorant and say no.

Of course the negative flipside would be ... Pegula doesn't care about Buffalo, or Hockey, or the Sabres as a team, or the Sabres as a franchise, or the fans. And is blindly thinking Ruff is doing so well in his two calendar years as an owner. But you couldn't possibly believe that insane fantasy ... Right?

No one is questioning his business sense. The Sabres will be a well oiled machine (pun intended, I guess) when it comes to the business end with him and Black.

Unfortunately, the hockey side is a disaster and he's shown no ability to make the hard decisions. Regier isn't going to fire Ruff (my opinion). That's when the owner steps in. Or he has Black do it.

But here's the disconnect that everyone misses. The hockey operation drives the business operation. You don't think Pegula knows that his on ice product is or will eventually hurt his business operation?

They probably do meet about it. Maybe they are right now; doesn't mean anything will happen though.

The only fantasy floating around here is all you who say that a 5 year contract means nothing. I get it, it could be terminated at any time. I'm more pissed that it was even given in the first place. I didn't think it was warranted and I think it was a horrible decision. I know they could fire these guys today, tomorrow, or in the offseason but as each game passes, fans get more and more pissed off and there are no answers from anyone.

He must have had some kind of spine to be successful in that business. All I'm saying is I'd like him to use that here when talking about the hockey side of things too. This team has been horrible for most of his time here. We're talking about this crap for the last year and a half of his tenure and for the better part of the last 3 years overall. Yet we still continue to wait... and wait... and wait some more for the balloon to finally explode.

I'm sick of waiting. I drive from Rochester to just about every game after working 10 hour days, I pay my season ticket $ on time, I buy concessions, buy merchandise, and I'm getting burnt out.
