Subban, even disregarding age/contract. They're both pretty young, anyway. I just like a top pairing defenseman who is good offensively.

If Subban didn't have attitude issues, I'd pick him, but they're too close, so went with Kessel. Good poll though.

I would take Subban because it has already been proven that Kessel isn't a guy you want to build around. I am not convinced Subban is any better but I would give it a shot. Defenseman are more important than wingers.

No such thing has ever been proven.

Kessel hasn't brought the Leafs anything yet, they haven't shown any improvement in the standings during his entire time in Toronto until this year and I am hoping that this year doesn't end up like last year for the Leafs.

He is not a guy that anyone should build around because he is a soft winger. If that is the identity that you think the Leafs should have, fine, I think it should be more like Wendel Clarke.

He is a fine piece to have on your team, he just isn't a guy I want the team built around. He is great if he is the 4th most important player on your team, not so much if he is your go to guy. He sure looks like he gets rattled in Boston and he practically runs away from contact. Is that really the guy you want your team built around?

Not me. He would be great to have on any team in the role of scoring winger and shootout guy, not as the guy who everyone looks at to see how they should play the game.

I'd rebuild with PK Subban. Having a hard time noticing a weakness in his game, and he plays big when it matters. Easy choice for me.

I noticed after I voted that it said consider contract, so I guess I'd take Subban, but I voted for Kessel.

Neither is likely a franchise player (imo). Kessel is closer to one and is a bonafide 35-40 goal scorer. Subban has more potential, but I think it's still very close between the two if Subban reaches it. Therefore, I take Kessel, who is already reached his potential and is the sure bet.

Would score a ton playing with Spezza too.

Kessel isnt a guy you build around. Hes an elite goal scorer, burner, and average defensively, but he simply isnt a "franchise" type player, IMO. He hasn't made the Leafs better since his time there, despite his scoring totals last year. This has been my opinion and likely will remain my opinion.

On the other hand though, I'm not sure Subban will be either.

Everything combined, factoring in what Kessel will be making after he re signs, Im going with Subban. I tend to value top pairing D men who can shut down the oppositions 1st line AND put up 40 points very highly.

Can't even accuse me of being biased either, Subban is probably hated more around Boston than Kessel `
