Already scared for next summer

I know everyone is happy for Sammy and Johnson but something that hurt me today is that signing of Aebischer for 1 year. Next summer, we are going to be ****** big time, here is a quick list of who's UFA, correct me if I'm wrong:

-Aebischer
-Markov
-Souray
-Rivet
-Bonk

Not only that but Bob will have to worry about RFAs who will not have a contract like Higgins, Komisarek, Ribeiro, Ryder and etc. What will happen now?

No Komi and Ribs on that list.

-Aebischer (Will either steal the #1 job from Huet and be signed or will be traded during the season)
-Ryder (Will be signed to a long term deal if he has a good season)
-Markov (Will be signed to a long term deal, with Samsonov signing with this team there will be a lot of Russians here, he'll stay.)
-Souray (Please don't let the door hit your *** on your way out)
-Rivet (Koivu's friend, no way he leaves Montreal)

I'm not worried at all, Ryder may yet sign a multiple year deal, Aebischer will be moved during or before the year. Sourray might be dealt too. to all this i say CAP SPACE>

the only thing i'm worried about is Markov, but i think BG will be able to sign him to a long term deal during the year.

good point about samsonov, his signing is a good way of inticing markov to stay in montreal.

Ryder is the same age as Ribeiro, from the same draft, and has actually played fewer seasons. How can he be a UFA if Ribeiro isn't?

I agree and Bonk's salary will be gone finally too (doesn't mean i don't like him on the 4th line)

Because the UFA age moves down year after year. So if UFA age this year is 28, then next year it's 27. I think Ryder will be a UFA next summer.

See Recchi Savage and Corson.
Rivet might sitck around with the Habs but he will most likley have to take a pay cut if he wants to do so.
Rivet loves the Habs that is for sure and I would love to see this guy win the cup here but not if he wants the big bucks!

No, you also need a minimum of NHL seasons to be UFA before a certain age.

Ryder will have 4 accrued NHL seasons in 2007. I'm pretty sure he will be RFA if he signs only for one year.

By the way, the only players I'm afraid to lose now are our defensemen. I don't care much about Aebischer or Bonk.

Markov will get top money, Koivu and Kovalev like. Hopefully, he doesn't want more or I can see problems arising.

Rivet will stay for around the same money, maybe a bit more.

Souray will be the main problem, I believe. Daughter issues don't help.

And cap space will also be a problem... I can see us saving 3 millions with Bonk and Aebischer gone, but that will not be enough to keep our 3 Dmen and all our RFAs if the cap doesn't increase...

Markov and Souray have to be priorities

Rivet falls last on this priority list as much as I like him. Like you said, he's saku's friend but we have countless examples of when this really doesn't matter.

Don't be silly in order to trade Abby he has to be signed, why do you think it was only for one year! also it's a bonus for us, if Huet faulters then we have a good goalie to take his spot.

You can't trade someone that is not under contract

-Aebischer - We'll know what's up with him if for some reason he's still with us after the trade deadline, which I doubt

-Markov - We will want to tie this guy up for the Bob 4 Year Special [see Koivu, Dandenault, Kovalev]

-Souray - though we don't want him to be traded [I don't anyway], his value has really risen after this outburst of crazy d-men contracts, and in his contract year and also wouldn't object to be closer to his daughter, we may not have to worry about re-signing him next season. But we'll see

-Rivet - I want this guy back. He bleeds for the team and is a true leader. I don't think his friendship to Saku will be as much as a concern as I think his heart belongs to the city

-Bonk - let's enjoy Bonk try to do everything he can this year so he can get a raise from some desperate team looking to take a chance next year. I see 15 goals, 40 points if he's gonna try to pull the Arnott routine

Nah. The only one that matters is Markov. Maybe Rivet. That's it. Not much to worry about. Our important players (Koivu, Kovalev, Huet) are signed long-term.

Actually, you can trade his rights in the receiving end team hoping to sign him long term perhaps. We signed him for one year, IMO lowering his value.

And you can trade someone not under contract, the whole Luongo deal happened BECAUSE he had no contract. And I don't think Vancouver would've been as interested if Luongo signed a one year deal with Florida before the trade, just like Chicago wouldn't of been as interested if Havlat signed a one year deal with Ottawa before the trade.

in 2007-08, a player age 28 with four accrued seasons or with seven accrued seasons

accrued seasons : 40 or more regular season NHL games (30 for goalie)

Ribeiro 6 seasons, 27. RFA
Ryder 4 seasons, 27. RFA
