Damn...my fault for not double-checking something I heard on the tv broadcast. Though I should have done the basic math: 2006 (18) + 7 (2013) = 25 years old.
I was thinking today that we should have a look at Berglund on hf boards and talk about how far he has come since that awful sophomore slump and the consistency problems that dragged on. You guys were a day ahead of me haha
Do people here think Berglund has Getzlaf potential? Or is that too big a stretch?
Not a chance, plus Bergy is more of a shooter than a playmaker which is what Getzlaf is known for. I think Berglund can be a 25-25 guy, with a couple season in the 60 point range.
Bergland is nothing more then a #2 Center. 9 Goals 2 assists? It could be 10 Goals with that great AP27 pass to Bergland in the 1st period to get behind the Sharks Defense and... Uggggh lost control of the puck...
50 points would be Bergland's ceiling here in St. Louis.

Am I wrong or does this post read with a dismissive tone? Berglund is a decent #2C with the potential to be an excellent #2C. Picking that up at the end of the first round is not something to be disappointed with, despite what some peoples expectations of him were.
While 50 points a season is possibly a realistic expectation for Berglund, it certainly is not his ceiling. He should be a 55-60 point player, with a ceiling of about 65.

He's the perfect second line center. Lets lot forget how massively he has improved on the defensive end. He has becomes true two way player.
Meh. His skating and ability to set up his wingers leaves a lot to be desired. I love how hard he works on defense and how he can keep a cycle going forever thanks to his big body and reach. He just doesn't actually create a ton of offense. He struggles to get into good scoring areas or finding good passing lanes.
I agree that Berglund, ideally, is a 3rd line center on a strong contender.
If we could add a #1 center and push Backes and Berglund down, we'd be in AMAZING shape at center.

You're center doesn't necessarily need to be the set up guy. He needs a playmaker on his wing. The guy has an unreal, heavy shot so I'm not surprised he's more off shooter. Having another shoot first guy in Stewart makes it harder.

So Berglund hit his ceiling in his 3rd NHL season? You are way off he is better now then he was that season.
Berglund has looked really solid so far this year. I see him starting to use his size in the offensive zone and pushing defenders around. I think that the Blues need to do whatever is necessary to keep him, as I think that he is going to be a very solid NHL center, whether it is as #1 line or a dominant #2 line center. Last couple of games, I have thought that his line has been the best of all the Blues lines.
I agree, Berglund's been really solid. Both ends of the ice. He's scoring, too, but he's creating his chances. He's been fantastic going to the front of the net. Really pleased with him. This is all we need. Bring us this, consistently, this mature game, and yeah, his line is going to be successful.
