Anaheim Signs Viktor Fasth to 2 year extension [$2.9 million AAV]

Quote:
The Ducks have signed goaltender Viktor Fasth to a two-year contract extension through the 2014-15 NHL season. Per club policy, no financial terms of the deal were disclosed.

“Viktor has proven himself not only this year in the NHL, but the previous two seasons as the top goaltender in Sweden,” said Ducks Executive Vice President/General Manager Bob Murray. “We are pleased to be able to keep him and feel fortunate to have two top NHL goaltenders going forward.”

Makes sense, playing great at 8-0-0.

Good for him. He's a late bloomer, but it's been obvious for years that he has what it takes.

Smart move. That guy is really good from what I've seen. They are really deep at goalie in Anaheim too.

Even though Murray says about having "Two top goalies", you have to wonder how long they'll hang onto both. Especially with Frederik Andersen playing well in the AHL and John Gibson's potential.

Very nice for Viktor to get this done early, is Hiller healthy now or have Fasth just been covering in for him?

Huh...should ANA really be paying that type of $ on goaltending BEFORE signing Getzlaf and Perry?

Or is Hiller gone to fit both in?

Very interesting.

Is Hiller still good enough to be a #1 somewhere?

Fasth is looking like a valuable asset. Smart to lock him up and figure out the rest later. It shouldn't effect anything with Perry or Getzlaf.

I was just thinking about this in Ducks forum.

To me this is a move that potentially mean Ducks feel Andersen is ready for an NHL role next season.

I feel 6.9m is a manageable amount for 2 top goaltenders next season, then again Hiller's 4.5m could be going to Getz+Pears.

I think Hiller will be dealt this off-season, but if not $7.5MM between two goalies is manageable. Pittsburgh for example has spent about that much on Fleury and Vokoun, and still fits under the cap with the big cap hits to Crosby, Malkin, Neal, Martin etc.

That have to move him eventually, but I'd hold on for a bit. Hiller is at an all-time low in value see if he can get back to form then you'll see a good return.

As for Fasth, good on the guy.

Good signing by them.

If they trade Hiller for prospects, they have more than enough money to re-sign Perry, Getzlaf.

I'm surprised Anaheim isn't waiting to see how teams react to Fasth once they've been exposed to him and figure him out.

They still have almost 30 millions of cap space for next season. I don't think it's big issue.

Hiller should bring back the Ducks some quality assets in summer

It's a gamble but losing Fasth for nothing in the summer would have been a real possibility.
