A one year deal opens him up to arbitration next year. I doubt Colorado would give him that option.

Stuff like this is why I was more on the owner's side during the lockout.

Just as there is a thin line between being a genius and a mad man, there is a thin line between having character and becoming a character.

What will players from other teams say to him when he gets back on the ice?

I think he's trying to tell us that ROR's 2-way game + character = major payday.

Which is fine, but lol, there's no way ROR is worth Patrice Bergeron money. Nope.

If this was the cleaned up version, what was the original like? I wonder if ROR knew he was going to do this?

That was the ranting of a very unbalanced individual.

The Avs should not even consider re-signing RoR after this correspondence. He has value right now, they need to trade him and be done with it.

Meh, I'm spiteful. I'd rather they sit him for a while and let him wallow in obscurity, tbh.

Being the son of someone who's more than capable of senseless drunken rants I'd have to disagree. Although, if this is the kind of thing that goes through Ryan's head then you could label the kid a nut.

One of my major red flags that someone is crazy:

They have a "life coach" (even if that person is a parent). If this actually is a letter written by O'Reilly's dad then I feel bad for Ryan. It's apparent he has been fighting an uphill battle against stupidity his entire life.

I'm sure before it was edited and cleaned up, it was considered a manifesto, and not a letter.

There are so many things wrong with this letter. Was this written by a high school senior? The grammar and flow is horrible. And the sickening sense of entitlement. Holy...

After reading the article I don't think Papa Bear would want it to go to arbitration either. Arbitrator's don't know how to gauge character...

I wondered the same thing. O'Reilly (the dad) doesn't seem very intelligent, if his spelling/grammar/tendency to ramble on is any indication.

In any case, it's never good when a parent of a player comes out like that in the press. The player always takes the brunt of the backlash. Parents should just let the agent deal with it. He's paid to get bashed in the court of public opinion.

You clearly didn't understand what his dad was trying to say. To sum it up: ROR will take his formidable character anywhere as long as you pay him. I'm sure he'd be happy to lead the Avalanche in salary

O'Reilly may have been #2 in character in the NHL, but did you see his defensive zone start percentage? Everyone knows extra faceoffs in the defensive end build character, I'd like to see his Adjusted Character Per 60.

Considering Andy lost seven straight games towards the end and seemingly wasn't even trying to make saves before he was shipped out of Denver, I'm not sure I would hold him up as a paragon of character.

Well..I doubt his dad just sent this email without taking to his son or agent..

It all seems planned to me.
