Just curious, how many folks here would have supported GMGM trading MAJO for Ribeiro straight up rather than Eakins and the 2nd rounder.
I would have gone after Pavelski and Derek Roy (which GMGM actually had done IRL) before Ribeiro but I still would have done it. It was pretty obvious Johanssons' value was at its peak this past offseason which was why he needed to be traded even if they weren't going to get "full value" for him before the predicted rapid depreciation of his value this season.
I didn't have too much of a problem with Eakin getting traded because Ribeiro was going to be a better 2C than Eakin this season. The only problem with that trade was that it likely meant Johansson was staying on the roster. Eakin was physically overmatched but hadn't shown signs of being mentally overmatched like Johansson.
Hello Caps fans, as an Avs fan I come in peace...not looking for trouble just wondering what it could possibly cost the Avs to land Alzner from you guys...I understand he is not gonna be traded anytime soon and knowing how much the Caps fans love this guy it would prob cost a pretty penny to land him, im just wondering what that pretty penny would be...Thanx for your time and i wish u guys luck for the rest of the season...
ps. just give it to me straight and dont be a dick about it, if u dont like my thread then just move on to the next 1 please...
Did you think you'd get a different answer than the one you got on the trade forum?
The Caps have absolutely 0 depth at LD, which includes current roster players and prospects. If they were to trade Alzner they'd need a top 2 LD capable of playing big minutes against tough competition.
As bad as Carlson has been, I'd be hesitant to trade him. Still has time to become a smarter player through experience.
Let's not forget he's signed at a bargain long term, while O'Reilly would be making 5mil playing a less important role than Carlson (2C/3C depending on Ribeiro)
I also think that Carlson hasn't been nearly as bad as people have been claiming. He stumbled a bit out of the gate, but I think he's been just fine the last 5 or so games.
I wonder if Ribeiro could go the other way in an O'Rielly trade? Gives the Avs a guy who is playing well and doesn't leave them with a hole in the C for the season. If they're out of the playoffs, they can still trade him and gain an even larger return.

It makes more sense to send Johansson. That way the Avs replace a player who can't play for another player who can't play.

I dunno man....Ribeiro has been kind of a bad lemon wherever he's been and there are rumors the he and Ovechkin aren't getting along. I think Ribeiro will be gone come the trade deadline if we're out of it, or he'll walk if we hold onto him. More likely the latter....fits McPhee's strategy of letting valuable assets walk for nothing.
ROR is exactly the type of character guy this team needs more of.

Where are these rumors? I haven't seen any... He's been our best player by far... why trade him?
