Roy won't come for an interim position guys. If Buffalo wants him it will have to be as full time coach and not only interim.

Yeah, but teams usually give permission. The Sabres did it for Dineen IIRC.

I know this is the wrong thread for it, but does this mean changes to the actual TEAM won't be made? Because even with a new coach, I don't have much faith in this team to succeed.
Not only has been successful in the minor leagues (losing Calder finals last year), but his player development has been outstanding.

Kadri, Frattin, Gardiner, Fraser, Kostka, Komarov, etc. It's not so much that he's changed their game, it just seems like every time we call up a player that player will exceed all expectations.

He also has the perfect attitude/approach where everyone respects him, but knows he isn't their friend. He also uses the same system as his NHL head coaches (Wilson/Carlyle), so he's been able to adjust quite well.

Yeah, but you can't really teach consistency..which this team has none of.

Are the Marlies in Toronto? Maybe we're meeting him up there and he's coaching vs the Leafs Thursday? (Please?)

Recalling the Regier - Nolan fiasco of DR only wanting to hire guys he knows and is comfortable with, I'm think his short list is:

Arneil
Cunneyworth
Rolston

Jon Cooper has been my guy since last year.

but, we all know it will be a former Regier guy...

I expect James Patrick to be the interim, and Arniel to be hired in the offseason

If he isn't coaching Buffalo, he'll be coaching another team opening night next year. Leafs will let him talk.

Eakins deserves an NHL team. I'd hate to see him go to a rival, but at the end of the day it would good to see him succeed.

He is a players coach and would bring the best out of your young guys.

Almost all of those contracts will have an out if there's a NHL opening and he's contacted. He wouldn't have signed it otherwise.

So I take it Leafs faithful would be quite irked if this were to happen.

I think we've all come to realize Eakins won't coach the Maple Leafs anytime soon. Carlyle is what we thought he'd be...

I personally don't care where he goes, I'm thankful for his time in Toronto and will wish him the best of luck when he does get a job.

Me? I give Rolston the Interim tag and re-assess at the end of the year. Elevate someone else to man the Amerks. See how the big boys respond to a young coach who is the complete anti-Ruff

Under the agreement, Eakins can effectively entertain an NHL coaching post after the first year. Worked out in principle over the past few months with Marlies GM/Leafs assistant Dave Nonis, the deal includes flexibility for Eakins to take an NHL job beginning in the 2013-14 season.
His contract allows him to leave for an NHL coaching job in 13-14.

I don't think the Leafs will allow him to leave midseason + wouldn't Regier interview someone in the Sabres organization before looking outside?

Per Bob McKenzie:
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
No confirmations yet but hearing Ron Rolston (coaching Rochester in AHL) as possible and perhaps likely replacement in BUF.
