Wonder if Darcy is having trouble coming up with lines that make this sound like it was his decision?

Wow... Just wow. This was a surprise... I suppose Pegula actually wants to win then.

Just wonder who will replace him, maybe they fired him to rehire him...
I mean really, I haven't even seen this team play under another coach.

Being on a 1 year deal and 35 years old, he probably was only a stop-gap this year anyway, regardless of Ruff's status. And Regier is just as big a fan of Hecht's as Ruff.

Bringing Roy in - who's known for his fiery, competitive nature behind the bench - sure would be intriguing for two reasons. Obviously, with Grigorenko slotted as the Sabres' future, having his junior coach continue his tutelage at the NHL level might help accelerate his development as a pro. But Roy is also the GM of the junior team IIRC, so he could potentially become the replacement for Regier too

I don't know about that - if one looks purely at statistics, yes, Pominville's production is too hard to forfeit....right now.

However, if the lack of passion, intensity and emotion is the ongoing problem with the team, having a passive, politically correct captain like Pominville who doesn't challenge the coach or call out his teammates and treats every loss with a ho-hum response, I would argue that Pominville has to either be stripped of the captaincy or altogether shifted out in favor of stronger competitors and leaders.

I don't get why 2 weeks before the lockout ended everyone agreed this was a bad team. After we signed Hecht all of a sudden we were a 4-8 team. It's a turn around year with 2 of the youngest centers in the league and an 18 year old rookie. I really don't think Regier threw this team together to be a contender. It's a team very much waiting on a prospect or two to develop and a few trades or signings to happen.

Lindy Ruff wasn't fired because he couldn't get a transition team to win. He was fired because he couldn't get a team in general to show up for any games. Much like 70% of last season, and 70% of the season before.

Give a new coach 2 years with what Regier gives him, If the team still sucks then, Regier can look for work elsewhere too.

$20 says the new coach is Mindy Duff - who turns out to be Lindy Ruff without his mustache and his hair dyed.

They fired Lindy and sent down McCormick. 1 week from now they'll rehire Ruff and call up Cody. Pegula will stand in front of the fireplace and declare "let this be a lesson to all of you!".

I was saying all lockout that this team would be bad.

I wonder if he'll indirectly look like a defeated man and inwardly frustrated - similar to how he looked and sounded on July 1, 2007, when he quickly countered Quinn's company line with the "we will not be as competitive" characterization after seeing Briere and Drury leave.

The coaching change - as momentous as it was for Regier to accept - could signal a rebuild mentality where the rest of the year is spent in getting a head start on next year's roster and prepping to be a seller at the deadline.

If so, that's not going to sit well with vets like Miller, Vanek and Pominville....

I really want to hear Pegula say something soon about this news, and the general direction of the team.
