Good point. I also like the fact he was selected for the WJC team which may give him an inside shot at making the team next year.

Yep. Would love to see him as the starter for Canada next WJC as I dont get to watch the CHL outside of some highlights here and there. Haven't seen the guy play at all yet, but making team Canada "a year early" is a pretty good indicator that he must be pretty talented, even if it was just as a third stringer.

Looking at his stats in the OHL, I'm guessing the Spirit aren't all that great defensively. 35 shots against pr game. Thats a lot

A lot of fans who watched the selection camp felt he earned the right to be at worst the back-up goalie rather than a 3rd string guy who could only play in case of injury.

I believe he didn't allow a single goal during the selection camp and was considered by many the best goalie on the ice.

He was also very good for his team last year during the playoffs. I like that he's a guy who is very good in pressure situations, like the playoffs or representing your country. He's no Thomas McCollum in that regard.

Paterson's stats don't tell the story in this case. I believe he keeps the team in games they should have no business being in. In the few games I have seen the goals scored against him were goals not many goalies could stop. A lot of the blame falls on the defence in Saginaw's case. They simply aren't very good in their own zone.

Regardless of his GAA or SV% he is probably night in, night out, Saginaw's best player.

For those wondering about OHL playoffs and players joining the Griffins. The OHL season ends March 17th. I would bet Saginaw climbs or falls so they are likely looking at an early exit facing the Knights in Round 1. Paterson would be able to at least get some practice time in GR.

Sault Ste. Marie could still leap frog a couple teams who aren't playing well right now. But that would still mean having to face Plymouth/Owen Sound/Kitchener all of which are very good. I would predict an early exit and then Sproul will be in GR.

Quine and the Belleville Bulls are a team that looks like they could make some serious noise, probably all the way to the Eastern Finals and a series with Barrie. They have the system to go all the way. It will be interesting to see if he gets any AHL time this season.

It's Junior hockey. Only six starting goalies have a.920 save percentage or higher in the OHL.

A second year starter that was drafted with a .900 save% is good for 19th in the OHL, it just doesnt look very good on paper thats all.

I've seen quite a bit of Paterson- the WJC selection is the better indicator. Hopefully Saginaw is in the mix next season- they have some decent pieces coming into their own but this year Trocheck was the man (now traded to Plymouth) and if their offense is clicking they'll score some goals... but that's about it. If Paterson stands on his head (and he does on a regular basis) and gets 40 saves they might have a nice stats sheet- otherwise its usually pretty ugly. The powers-that-be picked Paterson for the WJC for a reason- he's a nice hybrid reflex/technique goalie that could develop into something special.

Marchenko and CSKA begin their playoff run today. They were 2nd in the West and will play 7th seed Lev Praha. The first four game dates are the 20th, 21st, 24th and 25th of February.

Pulkkinen playing today as well, they have 7 games left in the regular season and lead the league with an 8 point cushion (2 more games played though).

Why are Ouellets numbers way down this season? I sure hope this means his defensive game has improved, then I can live with less pts.

Uhm, he has 36p in 40 games compared to 60p in 63 games. His team has allowed the 2nd fewest goals in the league.

Did mindfly just say Ouellet's numbers are way down from last year when he's scoring at nearly the same pace (0.05 PPG difference) than last year?

I meant goals, not points, my bad. 21 goals in 63 (0.33 GPG / 1 goal every 3rd game) compared to 9 in 39 (0.23 GPG / slightly less than one goal every 4th game)

I remember I saw some article, that Samuel Carrier (wasn't on the team at last season) is the leading PP pointman for Armada at this season.

So Blainville's PP has changed kind of like what it was at Nashville with Suter and Weber. Suter (like Ouellet) is more the setup-man there and Carrier takes the shots (like Weber) (with his booming right-handed shot) and that leads to more goals for Carrier, and mainly assists for Ouellet.

Someday, same will happen when we put Xavier Ouellet together with Ryan Sproul. And that will be even more devastating, I'll quarantee it.

Latest RWC article, Ferraro+others: http://www.redwingscentral.com/2013/...-nhl-prospect/

Interesting part:
Forward Rasmus Bodin, the Red Wings’ final-round sleeper pick last June, is back at Sweden’s third level with Tranas. He’s battled knee and back injuries and had some “adaptation issues” with HV-71 at the J-20 SuperElit level, according to Red Wings director of European scouting Hakan Andersson. “He’s struggling,” Andersson said. “There’s no other way to put it. But he’s got one more year to show something.”

Yeah, I saw that and was coming here to post the latest RWC article. I'm really impressed with how Ferraro has developed. We're going to have really good depth going forward. Within a year or two we are going to have like 8 guys from GR on the roster in Detroit.

I thought Ferraro was already a prospect. This is clearly a deep and nuanced analysis by Blashill.

No points for Pulkkinen and Marchenko, they both won though. Pulkkinen had 12:47 icetime, 2 shots and 2 PIM, Marchenko only 4:49 icetime and 1 shot as their 8th D.

Ouellet's ankle might be bothering him more then we thought. I hurt my ankle 2 years ago and I didn't let it heal right and it still bothers me today, you have to think that Ouellet would still be sitting if he's still hurting. It might just be he isn't in a great position to put up an excessive amount of points as his game is tailored more towards the defensive end then the offensive.

The sad thing is... I wonder how much of Frk's production has been Drouin+MacKinnon and not just Frk...
